Subject: Welcome Little Duckling From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Sep 00 - 02:23 PM Little Duckling may only be six but she has been joining in at singarounds at Whitby and others for a couple of years now and really wanted to join Mudcat. I'm sure she would love to hear from as many of you as possible. Her favourite songs are Magic Penny and The Bright Lights tonight. I know I'm biased but she is cute. She is also learning to play the fiddle and has ambitions to play like Elisa Carthy and then wants her hair orange!!!!If she manages to play like that she can have it any colour she wants!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome Little Duckling From: hesperis Date: 10 Sep 00 - 02:55 PM Welcome to Mudcat, Little Duckling! Fiddle is one of the few instruments I can't play. My fingers touch more than one string at once, and if I try to switch the bow to another string quickly, it sounds a really awful screetch! Have fun. ~*hesperis*~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome Little Duckling From: Giac Date: 10 Sep 00 - 03:02 PM Hi, Little Duckling, Glad to have someone of your years around! I have a friend about your age who is studying violin, using the Suzuki Method. She is quite taken with it and is very serious. Look forward to hearing about your progress. Giac |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome Little Duckling From: CarolC Date: 10 Sep 00 - 03:54 PM Welcome to the Mudcat, Little Duckling. Have you started busking yet? (Kids get the most money because they're so cute...But have your parents or somebody with you.) Best wishes, Carol |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome Little Duckling From: katlaughing Date: 10 Sep 00 - 04:14 PM Hi, Little Duckling! Welcome to the Mudcat! I would love to hear you sing and to hear how you are doing on learning the fiddle. Maybe sometime, you can talk your parents into coming to the HearMe sessions we have online, so we can HearYOU! I started learning the violin at 8 years old, but my dad played fiddle, so I kind of learned it, too. Sure glad that you have joined us! Your Mudcat friend, katlaughing |

Her favourites tend to shift around a lot (so do mine), but she enjoys singing Moonlight Shadow with me when we go for a walk. |

Subject: RE: BS: Welcome Little Duckling From: Parson Date: 10 Sep 00 - 05:27 PM Hi Little Duckling, hope you have great success with the fiddle (or is it violin?) I went to High School with a fellow who was the State Champion Classial Violinist, so I always teased him about being a fiddle player & asked if he could play "Turkey In The Straw!" Keep after it, and remember to state well-rounded in your playing. Randall |

Subject: RE: BS: Welcome Little Duckling From: Lanfranc Date: 22 Sep 01 - 12:43 PM Oh, Mrs Duck, are you sure about this fiddle thing? How much better to provide her with a properly-developed instrument with FRETS! I must confess that my younger daughter's flirtation with the violin lasted about four weeks. Even at seven, she could not bear the pained look on her daddy's face every time she hit a bum note, and moved on to guitar, bass, clarinet and sax ( not all at once, but serially and pretty competently, too!). I know it's possible for children to learn to play violin properly, but it never seems all that likely, say a 1 percent chance. On the other hand, perhaps you have a soundproofed nest. Could have been worse, I suppose, it could have been a melodeon, or even a bodhran. Nonetheless, welcome miniduck, I look forward to hearing you in the Snug some evening.
