Subject: Picture of the Day - Sept 11,00 From: Peter T. Date: 11 Sep 00 - 05:09 PM As requested by one or two people by e-mail: Hereand one from yesterday. Not a pretty sight. The colours are what is called Dobson units -- the grey and pink are the least amounts of ozone, towards the blue (low). yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Picture of the Day - Sept 11,00 From: Peter T. Date: 11 Sep 00 - 05:15 PM Sorry, got switched around, the first is from yesterday, the second from Sept 8. The first picture has the Dobson units scale at the bottom. |

Subject: RE: Picture of the Day - Sept 11,00 From: katlaughing Date: 11 Sep 00 - 05:36 PM Thank you, Peter. I am confused, though. At the very bottom, all I see is white, I don't see any gray, very little red and lots of pink and purple. If I have it right, gray is the least amount of ozone, which is bad news, correct? What is the white area? Ideally, should it all be red, which is at the top of the scale, meaning lots of ozone? Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: Picture of the Day - Sept 11,00 From: Peter T. Date: 11 Sep 00 - 05:48 PM I believe the grey is the dots of black on white. The satellite does not capture everything, maybe because the levels are so low as to be unmeasurable. The darker red and darker green are islands of strong ozone. yours, Peter T. |
