In a continuation of Bert's theme in his song about size not mattering, I offer this validation from our paper, today, from L.M. Boyd's "Odds & Ends":

"Q: Did you ever find out if a wolverine can kill a polar bear?
A: That has happened. The wolverine has been called one of the three most fearless animals. The other two: the tiny shrew and the big Cape buffalo. Size has nothing to do with it, clearly." (my emphasis)

There ya go, Bert! I still love your song! For anyone who isn't aware of it, please go to the Quick Links, Mudcat songbook, then look for Bert's song called "Size Doesn't Matter."

Sorry, that's supposed to be "Odds" etc. and "if" a wolverine, etc.
Fixed it.

Kat,
It would appear that the topic has you a little excited or at least a little distracted. Take a deep breath now and try again.

Like a gentle sigh can kill a conversation at 30 paces, if the said sigh comes from 'Spaws nethers..... and he's been on the pickled eggs again.

Spaw's nethers? Perish the thought. Oog.

I think that the premise "size doesn't matter" was amply proven by that wretched 1998 Hollywood film of Godzilla in New York (whose stupid motto was "Size DOES Matter").

Thank God, the Japanese have revived the real Godzilla with this year's release, "Godzilla 2000". Hopefully, Hollywood will never get their corrupted paws on the big green lizard again! Godzilla RULES!!! Not Oasis, Godzilla.

We had a siamese cat who could rout virtually anything on 4 legs. He demolished all the local cats and dogs, if they dared to step on our property. One day, though, am embittered black labrador named Inky came visiting. The dog had turned rather mean, because his owner was beating him. It so happened that Simba (the cat) had beaten up Inky when he was half-grown, but now Inky was full grown and not to be trifled with.

They encountered each other around a bush and Simba attacked instantly, flying into Inky's face. The big dog gave a "whoof" of surprise and shook his head violently, throwing the cat off, and then went for him. Simba was smart. It took him about a quarter of a second to realize that this particular dog would kill him, and no amount of pain or superficial damage to the dog would make any difference. The cat simply vanished into the shrubbery, so fast that Inky's jaws fell on empty air. Inky flew around the house about 3 times, beating through the bushes, but he couldn't find Simba anywhere, so he left.

That was the one and only time I saw Simba run away from anything.

Sometimes size does matter, but what really matters the most is spirit and determination. In this case, both combatants had plenty of that, so the smaller one had to back off to save himself.

You mean to say that a shrew has killed a cape buffalo?

Oh Kendal, I think I'll change it to "Spruce Doesn't Matter", just for you y'ole codger, *tee hee*

And Squeaks, are you saying "Sighs doesn't matter"?

Bert.

The sigh I was thinking of is but a gentle breeze that scares away the fleas - not a great deal unlike the egg sandwich ones floating round here. Sorry. I'll go now.

Along the size doesn't matter line, my neighbor had an interesting event in her back yard last week. You may know that some years we have a lot of black bears roaming our streets downtown. (If everyone kept their garbage cans bear-inaccessible, the problem would go away.)

Anyway, my neighbor was lounging in her back yard along with Oreo, her black and white cat, when a bear came through the gate and lumbered toward them.

Oreo was so outraged that she leapt on the bear's hindquarters, screaming and raking away with all four legs. The bear ran. Oreo rules!
