Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Christie Farrell (from Gerry Hallom) From: Charley Noble Date: 25 Jan 08 - 01:03 PM Nice to nail this one down. I'd like to know more about Graeme Miles. Is he Australian? From The Living Tradition: "Another of Martyn's favourite songsmiths is Graeme Miles and he has recorded several, one such is 'Shepherd On The Fell'. "It's a really good song, one he wrote in the mid-60s, '65 I think, and, like Eric Bogle, he started off with some of the best ones, his first song was 'Sea Coal', written in 1949!" Martyn also recalls an early tribute to the magic of Graeme's writing skills... " Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Lyrics:Christie Farrell From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 13 Sep 00 - 02:19 PM Aye, it does have that ring to it... I've e-mailed my friend Paul Davis who knows a lot of Irish music to see if he can shed some light on it. Jacko sings it very well; I had to use me flipper to wipe away a tear. Yours,Aye. Dave |

Subject: ADD: Christie Farrell ^^ From: jacko@nz Date: 12 Sep 00 - 10:51 PM I think I've tried every way of spelling this...no luck can't find it... so here it is as sung by Gerry Hallom CHRISTIE FARRELL It's a lot of miles I've travelled, now I've just a few to go Before that I am home again where the silver Shannon flows So spoke Christie Farrell the old man of the sea Thirty years on the merchant ships and a long way from Lochree I travelled round this great big world all on the seven seas Often spent the night on deck just listening to the breeeze I've seen the red sun rising on Fuji's silver crown And seen the same sun dipping down over smoky New York town I've often watched the smiling moon rolling over Lebanon Seen shooting stars come showering down to the harbour of Hong Kong I've seen the northern lights up there in the arctic's frozen waste And once we sailed around the horn where those clipper ships did race We've followed shoals of flying fish when I've been off Africa's shore Marvelled at the coral reefs where the giant waves heave and roar I've seen the Southern Cross at night as bright as bright can be Reflecting like some milky pearls upon down-under's sea I've seen the giant liners with their lights all burning bright Glittering like some diamonds in the velvet black of night I've seen the ocean sparkle and the lightning in a storm And yes I've heard the mermaids sing in the silvery light of dawn ^^ |
