Subject: Remember NOMAD From: Joan Date: 13 Sep 00 - 09:14 PM Just got a pile of flyers to post for this year's NOMAD, and hope everyone will mark the dates: Nov. 10, 11, 12th. It's in Newtown, CT. Awfully good line-up with Mudcatters well represented on the list. Kath Westra, Judy Cook, the Patons, Mary LaMarca, Woodchuck's Revenge, Karen K., Wally Macnow and numerous others. I passed on being a performer this year, but expect to be around and hanging out for at least part of the festival. I always feel very proprietary about this event since I used to be on the Programming Committee before moving up to Vermont. Great memories of wall-to-wall musicians crashing at my house and 'way too much food. See you ther |

Then there were major renovations/enlarging of the high school, so it got squashed into the middle school with inadequate parking and all sorts of restrictions. Then back to the high school just as we were ironing out the kinks at the other place. Again, we had parking space and more room. The logistics of food service have been worked out, the crafts area is in the spacious lobby, the custodians have learned that we're not a bunch of crazed loonies and they have precious little cleanup from us. Should be a great festival. As Charlie pointed out, you ought to check the web site, for info about accomodations and the whole listing of who'll be there doing what.

It's a difficult procedure, I'm know. I'll be doing 2 sessions with The New York Packet of South Street Seaport Museum:
Saturday Nov 11th, 1 pm - 2 pm and
Saturday Nov 11th, 9 pm - 11 pm Something I'm looking forward to very much, also on Saturday Nov 11th, 5 pm - 6 pm is "Chorus Songs - A Participatory Sport" with the Patons in the Music Room. Jerry Epstein has asked me to join him in "What Will They Listen To?" on Sunday from 2 to 3 - when that question will be answered. I look forward to seeing all my own Mudcat friends and meeting more.

The first one was in October 1988, and it was heavily oriented toward the dance communities - mostly contras, but also English, Scandinavian and various international dance forms. Only one workshop area was given over to music. Now there are 4 or 5. NOMAD was able to expand its music offerings thanks in no small part to Mudcatters Sandy & Caroline Paton, who supplied the festival with contacts in the music field, and also to Joan (now, alas, in Vermont) for her work in putting the music portion of the festival together. The location, Newtown High School, is easy to get to - a stone's throw from exit 11 off I-84, about 15 miles west of Danbury, CT and about 55 miles west of the New York State Thruway, Newburgh exit. From northern New England, it can be reached by taking the Mass. Pike, or I-91 to I-84, then east to exit 11. The program schedule for 2000 is almost complete and should be posted in the next week or two to NOMAD's web site here. |

Joan's Sunday Morning song swap has been so popular, I thought I'd try one on Saturday. Should be nice & intimate, before the crowds arrive... The instrumentalists seem to jam all over the place all day, but the singers seem to need an "official" jamming spot. So here'a another one. Hope to see you there - grab a cup of coffee or tea - it'll warm your vocal chords right up... Judy |
