Every full moon, my friend and I take our daughters to the beach and light candles for reasons personal to each of us. This month's "Harvest Moon" is also known as the "Magicians Moon". I believe that the greatest magicians are those who make music. I am always awestruck when ever I'm in the presence of anyone making music or singing from the heart. Tonight, as I sit on the beach "under the light of the silvery moon" I will light a candle and think of all you wonderful "magicians". Cheers

When I lived back east, my friends and I had a spot in the woods by one friend's house, where we had made a clearing with a ring of rocks for a small firepit. We would meet there at the full moon and make small Native American prayer pouches, with red cloth, tobacco and corn meal, each of us *sending* our prayers, through the ritual. Some chose to keep their pouches as reminders, others put them in the fire in a symbolic release.

We also sang sacred, to us anyway, songs and went around the circle, giving each person a chance to speak their thanksgivings and petitions/prayers.

Afterwards, we would have tea and cookies etc. inside.

Tonight, in a solitary mode, I will go outside, look up at her and give silent thanks. I miss my friends and our circle, though.

Lyrical Lady, thank you so much for writing that. I didn't know it was the 'Magician's Moon' last night when I held my Circle Dance. (And it was truly magical.)

Several of my friends were there, we danced for 2 and a half hours. Little Hawk played his Native American Drum while a non-mudcat friend led a chant and I led a dance I had adapted to go with the chant. That was one of the many high points of the evening.

After the dances were all over, I made sure to go out and look at the moon as it shone over Lake Couchiching. It was so beautiful, white, gentle light, and softly rippling water.

kat, have you done any Sacred Circle Dancing?

I have, hesperis, although not with any formal training. When I went to a wimmin's circle in Northampton, MA, which met on the top floor of a building downtown, we used to weavedance so magically and powerfully, we were sure the roof would just lift off! It was wonderful!

While living in CT, we once rented a place with four acres, a pond, and a huge oak tree all by itself near the pond. I had a Beltane celebration one year at our house and led a dancing procession out to the oak, round about, and back again to the house. We had a deer come and watch. It was a magical time as well.

When my cousin and aunt were here this last weekend, my cousin brought out her new Native American flute and played. I got out my Native American drum and we played a couple of tunes together. Another magical moment was sent out into the aethers of time, shimmering a bit while the vibrational tones hung in the air around us, fading away while we all sat in that stillness of awe when things just *click*.

My favorite full moon rituals are the "Sail-By" where Bill and I sail past the yacht club, lob a water balloon from the Anti-Pirate Yacht Cannon onto the roof, and give them a "Full Moon Salute." This never endeared us to them, and then again winning a lot of their regattas didn't overjoy them either. ("They're real bastards but they sail well")

My other favorite is the classic "Pressed Ham." I assume this needs no further explanation.

I live in the little old community of Fair Oaks, part of the Sacramento area but hilly and still semi-rural, with wildlife and a small-town atmosphere. We have a bridge high over the American River that was built in 1910, now used only for walking. It's a perfect place for sunset and moonrise. For the last 15 years of so, we've had an informal celebration for the rising of every full moon. People gather on the bridge and bring wine and hors d'oeuvres. Somebody always brings song sheets with "Harvest Moon" and "Carolina Moon" and all those old-time moon songs. Nothing ritual or religious, but a wonderful, fun, somewhat silly community gathering that includes everybody who wants to drop in.
I think it's grand.

The Magician's Moon was wonderful last night. I only regret that we didn't get over to see Rick Kane play part of his 2nd set...just didn't think of it.

A ritual we always partake in here in central Illinois, especially just as the huge and somewhat red harvest moon shows itself and rises just above the evergreen lined horizon, we all bend over and view the moon backwards and upside-down from between our legs. That destroys the optical illusion that the moon is bigger than at any other time or date on the calendar or at any other position in the sky---and the rising moon looks as large as, well, maybe a dime. Then we stand straight up and, when the blood has finally drained from our heads, we share a joint and run joyously and laughingly towards our own little beds where we tumble in and do whatever you all might imagine.

Of course, we are all covered, from head to toe, with "luna"ticks.

We all fall asleep with visions of lyme disease dancing in our heads. That depresses us so much we can't get it on. So we do it without a c....m .

The moon's been beautiful here in Athens County OH too. By the light of it the beavers took out most of my flowering quince bush. Somehow looking up at it I still couldn't be angry at them, poor buggers. But I am mad they got my huge big climbing red rose bush...

Since when do beavers like thorns? Must be the Moon's making them loony.

Doesn't it feel good to know the same Moon's shining on us all?

Bearheart, the beavers are just drunk from the runoff of Bobcatville now that school's started and can't be held responsible for their acts. Use extreme caution around them on Halloween and St. Paddy's when the streets there run ankle deep in the slosh.

Things are going so well for me now that I'm sometimes scared at it. My friend told me to "get used to it!"

I think it's the dancing that started it, I just brought in so much magical energy that good things are magnetically homing in.

Wow, I wish I could have been there for that Beltaine celebration! That must have been fantastic!!!

There is a charming ritual whereby you take a silver coin and place it in a non-metal bowl of water.Take them both outside and line up the bowl so the moon shines on the coin and then, with patience, you can 'scry' or see the future.You can then make a wish on the coin and bury it until the next full moon by which time your wish will have come true.The water should be used to nurture some living thing for added potency to your wish. ( okay lads, pile the kindling up....I'm ready )

I love the full moon. It's really beautiful.

Most of the time, though, just to be safe, I like to hide under a bed until it's all over. You just never know about full moons.

Yeah, you never know who'll turn into a wolf or something. It could even be you... Though wolves are kinda cool.

I love the line in one of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books, where Esme says something like, "half-moons are more dangerous. You are never quite sure which way they're going to go. There's always a feeling that they could go the other way." - was it in 'Carpe Jugulum'? I forget. Time to reread!
