Sorry, I don't know that one. I have heard "You're a short time living and long time dead" by the Irish Rovers, and on the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem Reunion CD you'll find "Isn't It Grand Boys (To Be Bloody Well Dead)". Good luck in finding the one you want.

I can't find the words. Maybe if I refresh it, someone else will try.

Jon

WHEN YOU'RE DEAD
As sung by Goats Don't Shave on "The Rusty Razor" (1992)

Such a big crowd at the wake it's nice to see.
Here comes Father Michael; kneel and say the rosary.
Sorry for your trouble; shake the hands of family.
Trays of cigarettes passed around with cups of tea.
They said he had it comin'; they saw the writin' on the wall.
They said if he had only asked for help, they'd 'a' given him it all.

CHORUS: 'Cause a man lives and a man dies.
I heard the gossips, the hypocrite prophets
Throw dirt in his grave without blinkin' an eye.
And a man dies—no surprise.
They said he's a loser, a drunkard, a boozer.
They slashed him with tongues sharp as knives.
It's true what they say:
When you're dead, you're great.
When you're dead, you're great.

Remember how he used to sing and play that old guitar.
Remember how you sang along those late nights in the bar.
Ev'rybody'll miss him; things'll never be the same.
Ev'rybody loved him; ev'rybody knew his name,
But when he walked among them, a diff'rent song they sang.
They watched the bottle bleed him and no one gave a damn.

CHORUS
When you're dead, you're great.
