The boy stood on the burning deck,
Sellin peas, a penny a peck,
Did he wash his mucky neck?
No, did he heck!

Goodbye My Lover Goodbye (Great Lakes Shanty)

A farmer boy stood on the deck
Good bye my lover goodbye
He's eating peanuts by the peck
Goodbye my lover goodbye

CH: Goodbye, goodbye my love
    Goodbye my lover goodbye

Hecame onboard with his Sunday close
Goodbye my lover goodbye
His Sunday hat & his Sunday hose
Goodbye my lover goodbye
CH:
He walks the deck with his farmers feet
He don't know a caspan from a sheet

Here's an old one, which I learned as a mere boy...

The boy stood on the burning deck
Wishing he'd never been born;
His father said: "You wouldn't have been
If the Durex hadn't have torn."

I usually don't care for parodies, but parodies of a poem so noxious are a different matter.

the boy stood on the burning deck
with his sister Molly.
the deck was very hot to him,
and also hot to Molly (hot tamale)

My version similar to many others. Don,t know where I learned it but it's been in my head for 50 years.

The boy stood on the burning deck
His feet were full of blisters
He used to wear his mother's drawers
But now he wears his sister's.

As kids in Lancashire, my dad used to recite his version (he might have made up the last part -- he used to do that kind of thing)

The boy stood on the burning deck
selling peas a penny a peck
did he wash his dirty neck?
Did 'e 'eck.

The boy stood on the burning deck
his feet were full of blisters
the captain said: Antonio, tell us a tale...
And the tale went on as follows:

The boy stood on the burning deck,
etc... etc...

There was a wee lass sitting at the bar, a big thug walks up to him and hits him, he says; "That's a karatti chop from Japan!"
The same thug walks up to him and hits him again and says; "That's a karitti chop from Sout Karea!" The wee guy goes out and later comes back and hits the thug out cold! Then says to the barman; "When that big B***ard wakes up tell him; that's a crow bar from B&Q!"

The boy stood on the burning deck,
His heart was a all a-twitter,
He stood 'till he could stand no more,
And became a crispy critter.

His heroic ashes blown about,
His shipmates all in gloom,
Hailed his courage, one and all,
'Ere breaking out the broom.

And now, collected, in the pan,
Now committed to the jar,
They placed him on the mantle high,
Inside of Paddy's bar.

And, now and then, when back on shore,
They raise their glasses high,
And 'toast' the lad above the fire,
Sayin' "better him than I!"

The boy stood on the burning deck,
His ass against the mast,
He would not move a bloody inch,
'till Montague had past,
But Montague was craft, he threw the boy a plum,
And when he went to pick it up,
He shoved it up his bum.

Anddd

The boy stood on the burning deck,
Wishing he'd never been born,
His mother said he wouldn't,
If the condom hadn't been torn.

Both of those were taught to me by my uncle when I was a kid (RIP)

The boy stood on the burning deck

So they geid him a bottle .... by the neck
and he drunk till he was fu'

And by the time that he lay drunk

But he climbed up an elephants trunk

Correction and additional verses
BTW Granny B remembered all the verses at 91 but didnt know who i was - one of the penalties of growin old

The boy stood on the burning deck
And tied his whiskers round his neck
and shouted give me half a peck
and he drunk till he was fu'

And by the time that he lay drunk
the good ship sank and then it sunk
But he climbed up an elephants trunk
and whistled for the crew

And then there was an awful thud
that froze each sailors noble blood
for someone threw a rotten spud
and knocked off the captains wig

The captain in a rage he flew
blew up the ship and sacked the crew
And they're a' daen forty days the noo
for playin at bunnetty tig

I looked this string up since my mum(90) remembers some of the verse and wants to find the full version.

The boy stood on the burning deck,
He stood upon his head,
Because his arms and legs were off,
So he waved his arms and said.......(or possibly "instead"....)

She then has forgotten the rest but knows it was a parody of many poems. It apparently ends
"For I'm to be Queen of the May, mother, I'm to be Queen of the May."

She thinks the "Village Blacksmith, a mighty man was he" appears in it it as well.

Any offers?
