Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: Brakn Date: 20 Sep 00 - 07:05 PM Does anyone know anything about Lonnie living in Altrincham as a child during the war? |
Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: Dave the Gnome Date: 20 Sep 00 - 10:59 AM Couldn't make it myself as I said earlier. Catrin couldn't either. Just spoke to my pal Charlie the Luthier who was definitely going and guess what - he didn't! Hope someone went!!! Dunno if Lonnie is visiting his homeland (Scotland) but as he was on in Liverpool (With Van Morrison!) a while ago and in Manchester last night I guess he may be on the road. Or am I putting 2 and 2 together to make 5? There is a good web site at www.gigguide.co.uk (Sorry - can't do clicky things) giving details of Scottish gigs and a Lonnie Donegan web site at http://www.sonicnet.com/artistinfo/6168.jhtml but I can't find any more info. Good luck to anyone wanting to find more gigs and if anyone can let us know how the gigs went at least we can be more jealous of missing it! |

Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: Bugsy Date: 20 Sep 00 - 06:19 AM Yeah, was he still entertaining? Did he do all the old skiffle numbers? Come on, spill the beans.
Cheers

Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: GUEST Date: 20 Sep 00 - 12:33 AM I think LD did the best version of "Rock Island Line" ever. |
Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: Catrin Date: 19 Sep 00 - 12:38 PM Sinsull, In my house it's my partner Dave who is the Lonnie Donnegan fan. He told me that Lonnie Donnegan was the one to introduce American folk music (woody guthrie style) into the UK, in the 50's. He made some magic music. Catrin. Now for the sad bit. I can't make it tonight. I spent all my funds, and my energy, at The Jolly Angler last night. Bad planning I know but I never was one for forwrd planing or self-discipline. Is there another Mudcatter who can go and give us all a report? |
Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: Dave the Gnome Date: 19 Sep 00 - 06:09 AM Looks like you can pay at the door - Can't make it myself as son number 3 needs to return to Uni tonight and requires the services of driver dad! Look forward to seeing the review... and yes Sinsull - there is MUCH more. Chewing gum and dustmen were 2 unfortunate incidents in the life of LD - the rest is good stuff and provided inspiration for a myriad of folk related performers. |
Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: Catrin Date: 18 Sep 00 - 03:40 PM I'm hoping, at this stage, that this is a 'pay at the door' sort of treat. Anyone know? Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: paddymac Date: 18 Sep 00 - 12:41 PM A rare treat indeed - please do report back at let the rest of us share, if only vicariously. |
Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: Naemanson Date: 18 Sep 00 - 11:26 AM And since it's not Manchester, New Hampshire, USA, I guess I can't make it. But I expect a lengthy report from those that go! |
Subject: RE: Lonnie Donegan in Manchester From: SINSULL Date: 18 Sep 00 - 10:25 AM "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight?" Lonnie Donegan? Please tell me there is more. |
