Howdy! I just wanted to remind everyone that Mister and I will be participating in the 1850s Country Fair at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg, KY. We'll be there Saturday and Sunday as wandering entertainment, so I don't know what our exact times are - last year we just sort of did what we wanted in between the other acts. Shaker Village is a lovely site - please visit if you get the chance! Come see us if you can, and say hello. :)

Kim

If I lived in Kentucky I would be there (I suppose that goes without saying).

It does sound like a lot of fun....good luck and have a good time.

Gawd Kim, I'd love to if we could. Pleasant Hill is a beautiful place and Karen and I have been there many times. We spent a night there in one of the rooms and have always wanted to spend a few nights in one of the buildings. The food is really fantastic too. Above all, its such a lovely place. I don't know if you have ever taken 68 North to Lexington, but that is one of the greatest drives in the US. The river and the pallisades, thhen winding up past some of the most beautiful of the Bluegrass horse country......just great.

For those of you wondering what I'm rambling on about and for where Kim will be.....CLICK HERE

Ooooh, Kendall, I must really be getting old because I don't remember that.... but I will thank you anyway!

Yep, them Shakers'll feed you till you bust. Definitely NOT a place for dieters! :)

THREAD CREEP - The Meeting House at the Village is all-original,including the hardwood floor, in spite of having once been a car repair operation. You tell me if that place isn't charmed.

Charmed I don't know, but it is a woodworker's paradise. I love that bannister!!! The Shaker's also had some significant inventions and methods of doing thimgs that will fascinate anyone.

Never been to Kentucky but I've been to eastern Tennessee and the people up there in the mountains (we were in Townsend) are some of the friendliest and nicest I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

Break a leg at your fair - it sounds wonderful!

Hi Kim. Thanks for putting this reminder in. I'd love to see you this weekend, and since I'm only about an hour away, I just might bop over to Shaker Village this weekend. The weather should be gorgeous...we're having our early fall-bright blue sky-cool temps weather. I don't have a Mudcat T-shirt (yet), but I'll introduce myself if I can arrange to be there. Have a great weekend.

Mary

Kim, reading through the Shaker web site that 'Spaw so graciously posted, it sounds like the Shakers only did acapella music -- do you have to conform to that in your performance ?

Actually, no, because we're not portraying Shakers. We're itinerant carnival musicians who have stopped at the country fair so the Shakers can feed us and put us up for the night ;)

But the people who do portray Shakers do a fabulous a capella music program in the meeting house.
