Hawberry Ice Cream is a regional specialty of Manitoulin Island in Canada. If you can get it anywhere else, let me know!!! Butterscotch is my all-time favorite. If I'm only having a single cone, I sometimes get Vanilla. As I found out that I'm extremely allergic to all dairy products, and I no longer eat Ice Cream, the list above is just from beautiful memories... Vanilla Rice Dream is really good with canned peaches added. And the Homemade Soy Ice Cream with bright red currants that I made one time was very good. |

My recipe calls for 9 egg yolks and a quart of heavy cream. If I can't have the real thing, I'd rather not have it at all. Unfortunately, I didn't make any at all this summer, because I'm trying to get rid of weight gained, while living in Alaska. |

I've given up any attempt on being a vegan (I play a goatskin, for starters), and so while I'll eat vegan food while It's there I don't particularly go out of my way for it. A place I used to work in made Carob Twirl which I thought was amazing... but here in Boston we are blessed with many shops that makes their own gelato-style ice creams and sorbets and I humbly invite any of you out for a cone or dish if you visit...my personal faves are:

Now I have to make do with imported Breyer's (not like it was in Philly when I was growing up, but still has the little flecks of vanilla bean) and occasionally B&J, but I've also grown quite fond of the local brands, such as ginger or green tea from Hilo Homemade. And to make this a musical thread, I hope to see Peg and Bud and others at the Bok/Muir/Trickett concert in Bedford this Saturday -- I'll be wearing my Mudcat T-shirt! Aloha, Mark. |
