Subject: last verse of 'maid in her father's ...' From: GUEST,Joerg Date: 24 Sep 00 - 09:00 PM Hi, folks, I recently purchased a CD with a song performed by Triona Ni Dhomhnaill with Relativity: There Was A Lady. Meanwhile I found out that this is almost the same as 'There Was A Maid In Her Father's Garden' with the lyrics posted by Wolfgang here(hope the clicky will work). Triona adds a verse to everything I could find until now going like
So come all you fair and tender maidens, You know I once read that (at least irish) folk songs were called 'Comeallyes' before the word 'folk' was even invented, and I think that this last verse adds some kind of satisfaction to any real folk lover. Can you understand that not knowing the second half of the last line of the last verse of a song I like is hard for me? It's like ... uh ... forget it ... ;-> Can anybody help me? Joerg

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: last verse of 'maid in her father's From: GUEST,Joerg Date: 25 Sep 00 - 08:48 PM !!! THAT'S GREAT !!! ROTFL !!! Yes, Hotspur, I think that's it. Maybe I would have realized this myself if I just had thought of the possibility that an obvious love ballad might turn into an emigration song at the very, Very, VERY last moment. But that was kind of too difficult for my poor - maybe old - brains. Thank you very much for the words and also for the warning ;-) Joerg |
