Tune Req: The Wee Laddie

TO ALL YOU SCOTTISH MUSIC LOVERS: I have an LP called "Focus on Jim MacLeod" and it contains the song, "The Wee Laddie", a fairly slow bagpipe melody, no words. I am learning to play the fiddle and I would very much like to find the notes for this song. I searched the web pretty thoroughly, with no luck. Does anyone know this melody? and can you find the music for me?

Gene, would it be the "Wee Highland Laddie" or am I thinking of a different tune???

Thanks, Yvonne. The LP cover and the disc label give the title as "The Wee Laddie". Its a fairly old and great LP of Scottish music by the Jim MacLeod band, a small band that is similar to Jimmy Shand's. Sorry to be so slow in responding, Yvonne. I couldn't get on this site yesterday. I appreciate your trying to help. GeneJ. ps. I am looking for some info on another Scottish song -"Come Under My Plaidie". I am going to post a separate request at this site re this song.

No lines of "Wee Laddie" have yet been given here, so I don't have the foggiest idea of what song we're trying to find the tune for. Titles are often worthless identifiers.

The tune for "Come under my plaidie" is "Blarney Castle/ Johnny McGill/ Black Rogue". ABCs under each title are the tunes T020x in file T1.HTM on my website (in Mudcat's Links). The song, by Hector MacNeill, is, with music, in 'The Scots Musical Museum', VI, #533, 1803.

I see by more careful reading that your song has no words. There's no tune called "The Wee [X] Laddie" in Charles Gore's 'The Scottish Fiddle Music Index'.

So far as I know, Jim MacLeod wrote The Wee Laddie himself, which would explain why it's not available on the net yet.  There's always a degree of confusion when people (it seems usually to be an American habit) refer to "songs" rather than "tunes"; as a general rule, it's best to describe a dance tune as "a tune" and a song (a tune with words attached to it) as "a song".  Makes it easier for us to help!

Thank you for your diligent work,Yvonne. I went to that site and found the name of the band who plays the tune. I sent them an e-mail. And, Malcolm, thanks for the tip to the effect that it was probably Jim MacLeod's own composition. I mentioned that in my e-mail. On my LP, it is instrumental only, but I thought it might very well have lyrics also. In fact, the first few bars seem to say (musically) the title - "The Wee Laddie". GeneJ.
