Subject: RE: BS: do you like pound cake? From: SandyToes Date: 29 Sep 00 - 05:13 PM Jeri, it is wonderful...try it and let me know what you think. SandyToes Here is another for you all to try also: CHOCOLATE ECLAIR (very rich) 1-box of graham crackers 1-big box of instant vanilla pudding 1-big tub of whip cream 1-betty crocker chocolate frosting mix pudding with 3 cups of milk. then add the cool whip. in an oblong dish, place a layer of graham crackers and then the above mixture. then a layer of graham crackers and the mixture. you may have enough to do this a third time. (2 to 3 layers) ending with crackers as your top layer. mix the frosting with just enough milk to make the consistency you want it. NOT TOO THIN!!!(kinda thick) Pour this over the last layer of crackers and spread. Chill for several hours. (best when chilled several hrs) IF YOU WANT TO REALLY MAKE IT RICH: ADD A CAN OF CONDENSED MILK TO THE MIXTURE.......mmmmmm mmmmmm GOOD. Let me know what you think. Sincerely, SandyToes |

Subject: RE: BS: do you like pound cake? From: SandyToes Date: 28 Sep 00 - 04:28 PM OK...sorry it has taken so long to get this to you guys. But here it goes. You can make either sour cream or cream cheese pound cake. CREAM CHEESE / SOUR CREAM POUND CAKE: 4 sticks of butter 3 cups of sugar 3 cups of flour 8 eggs 1 tsp of vanilla flavoring a pinch of salt a pinch of baking soda *either one: 8 oz of cream cheese OR 8 oz sour cream melt butter to room temperature (& cream cheese if using) mix butter, sugar, (cream cheese OR sour cream), salt, baking soda, and vanilla flavoring together very good. Then add flour and mix well. Then add eggs. Mix up together very well till smooth. Grease, flour, and sugar your cake pan...pour batter in. Make sure your oven is preheated to 300 degrees... Cook this for 1 1/2 hours. Best when eaten hot with a tall glass of cold milk. ***If you can get fresh eggs from a farm...it is better. ***Using either one...the cream cheese or the sour cream, it is a good pound cake. Here is a quick and easy recipe for PECAN PIE: (makes 2) 1 stick of butter or margarine 3 TBSP of flour 1 box of light brown sugar 6 TBSP of milk 3 eggs 2 tsp vinegar 1/2 tsp vanilla flavor 1 1/2 cups of chopped nuts melt margarine at room temperature, add in flour, & sugar. Mix well. Then add eggs and milk. Stir in vanilla & vinegar. Add nuts and mix all together. Then pour into an unbaked pied shell (shallow ones). Bake in a COLD oven for one hour at 300 degrees. This is better than the karo syrup receipe. Good luck and I hope you enjoy. SandyToes |

Subject: RE: BS: do you like pound cake? From: Hotspur Date: 25 Sep 00 - 10:00 PM That's why it called POUND cake--because it contains a POUND of each main ingredient! (In earlier times, eggs were measured by weight--don't ask me why--and 8-9 eggs = one pound.) |
Subject: RE: BS: do you like pound cake? From: Jeri Date: 25 Sep 00 - 09:53 PM Sailor Dan, I forgot about toasting it and slathering it with butter until your post. Thanks for reminding me.
Micca, pound cake is a very dense cake. Very, very dense. The main ingredients are eggs and butter, although it has some other stuff in it. There are 18 recipies here. The first recipe, which looks like it may be the simplest: |

Subject: RE: BS: do you like pound cake? From: Giac Date: 25 Sep 00 - 12:41 PM Pound cake and hot tea on a chilly afternoon - yum! Back in the dark ages, my aunt always made pound cake and Lady Baltimore cake at the same time because it took the same number of egg yolks for the pound cake as it did egg whites for the Lady Baltimore white cake. By "helping" her with those cakes, I learned to separate eggs without breaking the yolk. For those who haven't had the pleasure, Lady Baltimore cake layers are split so there are four. A wonderful pineapple filling is between layers and the whole thing is covered with a sinful boiled white frosting. Thanks for reminding me of these sure ways to add pounds. |
