Help: How do I get into the chat room?

I was listening to Mudcat Radio this week (Great Show Max, Bert, and All) and heard, once again, a reference to the chat room. I went looking for it and stumbled into the Hearme room. I met dwditty, DaveTam, and Angelia there and they didn't know about it either.

So what gives? How do we get into the chat room? What is this, a clique (JUST KIDDING!!!)?

I am surprised dwditty didn't know about it, as I think I sent him an invite. It is FolkChat which Max set up on ICQ. It's only up when the radio show is on. You do have to have joined it before you can get into the chat the first time. You also have to have ICQ. If you do and you PM me your ICQ number, I will send you an invitation. No clique, it's just a function of ICQ.*grin*

It stands for I Seek You. It is a nifty little program which allows you to sned instant messages and have group or private chats with people you have on your contact list. A lot of Mudcatters use it. If you'd like, PM me your email addy and I will send you an invitation to join. That way you can see what it is all about. Or, here is a link to their index page.

Could someone tell me what ICQ version to download for an iMac? I have ICQ v/beta 2.o but it doesn't seem to want to give me an activelist which would enable me to join the chat rm. Thanx..LL

LL, sorry I don't know anything about iMacs, but I am sure someone will come in here with some info. You might also go to the links we've put in and see if you can find some info at the ICQ site. Good luck.

LL, I don't know anything about Macs either, but if you're operating ICQ in 'Simple Mode,' it won't show you the bar for finding an ICQ Activelist. If that's the case, there should be a bar to change to 'Advanced Mode.' Click on that and follow the instructions.

When you get a bar for 'Find/Add An ICQ ActiveList,' click on that. This will bring up the ActiveList Search Wizard, which asks for search information. You can search by ListID (#62415725), or by List Title (FolkChat). When you've entered your search term, click on the 'Next' button and follow the instructions from there on. Hope the ICQ Mac interface isn't so different that these instructions are all wrong.

Brett, BTW, the instructions in my second paragraph should also work for you. The main thing you needed to know was the ICQ # or List Title. The one thing I can't remember is whether you have to wait until radio's on the air to join the list or you can do it anytime. Don't be daunted by the 'asking for permission' to join. I believe it's pretty automatic and it all takes just a couple minutes, if ICQ's cooperating (it doesn't always).
