Subject: Roy Book Binder fans - help!

Hi all- I'm working (along with some other folks) on a 60-minute documentary film about folk-blues great Roy Book Binder. We've already finished our first show in this series (about Paul Geremia, see the thread under "Paul Geremia" here or our website about the show at http://culcom.net/~shadow1/Truth.htm). We have done some shooting of Roy in concert and some interview, and we will be using clips from a PBS film about Roy froma few years back. Plus, Roy has a few of his 1980's appearences on on the TNN cable network's "Nashville Now" program (he was on the show 20-40 times!). What we're hoping is that fans of Roy might have a few more of his appearences on that show, or any other for that matter. We're looking for video of Roy on any local show, or even any fotage you may have shot yourself at a concert, festival, etc. We'd also be interested in audio recordings of radio interviews, performance, etc., AND press clippings, with or without photos, about Roy. While we aren't in a position to offer any money for your efforts (this is all on a very shoestring budget!), we can offer eternal gratitude, thanks in the credits of the show, and a copy of the tape mailed to you. Contact me via email at cornchild@hotmail.com for further information or if you can help out. Thanks!

Jeff Kenney

Wow, Jeff! I wish I'd know about this a few weeks ago. I just went through a bunch of files from when I worked at the Center for the Arts in Westerly, RI. I had a bunch of press releases with photos, etc. which were sent out to radio stations for promos, when Roy came to perform.

It was my first time ever seeing and hearing him. I've almost worn out the tape I bought from him that night. It was a marvelous performance. Sorry I can't be of anymore help. Good luck,

kat

Check with the Florida Folk Festival people. I know that they have done a lot of taping and Roy appears there frequently. Call the Dept of State in Tallahassee and talk to Ken Carpenter. He should be able to point you in the right directions. If I can find it, I'll give you his e-mail address.

Roy performed at the National Storytelling Festival last year, and got an extensive write-up in the Johnson City Press (Tennessee). The article was written by James Brooks. Couldn't find a website, though. The storytelling festival might be able to help, as they audiotape everything, and sometimes they videotape as well. Don't call them for a week or so, though, as this year's festival is this weekend.
