Subject: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: bbelle Date: 01 Oct 00 - 09:57 PM I opened my mailbox on Friday, with bated breath, because I just knew my Rosewood Kazoos were going to be there, and they were! Oh, they are beautiful and the sound is wonderful. Not the thin sound one gets from a kazoo made of tin or plastic, but a warm, woody sound. When I opened the package, I expected them to look like your standard kazoo ... shaped like a tube. Oy! Was I surprised. The dimensions are 3 1/4 x 3 3/8 x 3/4. They aren't squared off and look sort of like a barn with a sloped roof. At the very top is the mouthhole. Mr. Foley's signature is burned at the bottom of one side. I am very lucky, indeed, to own two Rosewood Kazoos made by Mr. John Foley in Connecticut. moonjen |

Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: bbelle Date: 01 Oct 00 - 11:27 PM I will PM you the information. I have promised my second one to Jeri if she will help me lead the children's kazoo workshop at the Getaway! JERI, ARE YOU LISTENING? moonjen |
Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: Bill D Date: 02 Oct 00 - 11:33 PM I am looking forward to seeing/hearing them, Jen...I always like rosewood...but am also a 'tiny' bit concerned, as Rosewood can be an irritant to some folks..(met someone who had a Rosewood recorder, and got blisters on his lips)....the other thing is, sometimes people call certain woods 'rosewood' when it isn't....I'm glad they are beautiful and sound good, but DO take care? |
Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: bbelle Date: 03 Oct 00 - 12:56 AM Bill ... tell Rita I'm all set for my workshop. I believe Mr. Foley is a reputable man ... he's a friend of Sandy and Caroline Paton's. My lips haven't blistered, yet. If I get to the getaway looking like Barbara Hershey in "Beaches" you'll know I've either gotten collagen treatments for my lips or my kazoo has done a number on them. Now, doesn't that conjur up a mental image ... moonjen |
Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: GUEST,micca at work Date: 03 Oct 00 - 06:17 AM Isn't there a song about this? "And the Rose Kazoo in the front of my head put there by Mr John Foley" |
Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: Rick Fielding Date: 03 Oct 00 - 10:13 AM First met Mr. Foley at NOMAD, held annually in Danbury Ct. (thanks to the Patons...as usual). He's a nice guy and told me (humourously I think) that the only material suitable for the diaphragm was the wrapper from the New York Times! Moon, if you wanna REALLY have fun, get a couple of big funnels from an auto supply place and stick 'em in each side. You now will have the LOUDEST STEREO KAZOO in the universe! I use it in kids' shows. Have fun. Rick |
Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: bbelle Date: 03 Oct 00 - 10:39 AM Oh, Rick, my friend, what a wonderful idea!!!! I will do just that ... now I have to figure out how to fit them in my backpack. moonjen |

Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: Tinker Date: 03 Oct 00 - 11:11 PM Jen, if you PM me info on how to order a kazoo I could help at the getaway. My grand and glorious hubby has volunteered to watch 4 kids, big dog, 3 soccer games, and cover my Sunday School Class all by his lonesome so I can take the weekend and go to the getaway! I'll be personally kidless, so a dose or two of someone elses should be just about right. I can't wait..... Tinker |

Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: Margo Date: 04 Oct 00 - 04:03 PM I'm interested in the kazoos - what is the big deal about having to send the information about how to get them in a personal message? Why not just post it here? Could it be that the boxy shape is what makes the sound full? That would be my guess. I'd like to see one. Margo |

Subject: RE: ROSEWOOD Kazoos From: Rick Fielding Date: 09 May 01 - 02:58 PM refresh for Stevangelist. There was another thread where I mentioned getting a custom built Brazilian Rosewood kazoo at the NEFFA Festival. Mostly I meant it as a joke. Kinda parodying we guitar nurds who are always talking about "Brazillian Rosewood Martin guitars", but it still gets mentioned occasionally here. Rick |
