I should be leaving around 9, and I figure the drive will be about 8.5 hours - except for the part where I go through NYC. If all goes well, I'll probably get there at around 5:30 - 6; if all goes like it usually does, probably 8 - 9.

I'm really hoping my registration got there in time, but I guess I'll find out when I get there. It's my own d*mn fault anyway.

Some of the travelling folx may not see this 'til **after** Getaway. But, in case anyone checks a computer tonight or tomorrow morning afternoon...I'm lookin' forward to seeing (and hearing) y'all again!

For those who have forgotten since last year (whether accidentally **or** deliberately! ;-) ), I was the one who perpetrated "When I Was A Boy" in the Funny Songs workshop--the song that blended the "when I was your age" concept with ancient computers. And no, you won't be able to escape that one...I've got a promise to fulfill to sing that for one of the locals.

-- Gary,

counting the hours 'til it's time to Ramble to the Getaway!

I am very excited to be heading back to this wonderful gathering. I can't wait to see all of you.

I cannot leave from Grand Rapids until about 1 PM and I have to make a stop at Elderly for a dozen or so pennywhistles for the kids. Parents love me......next time I will give them bodhrans....LOL. Folks, if I get too tired, I may pull over for a few hours sleep and come in the next morning. Jen, you have my cell phone number, so if you get to concerned, you can call.

I am so excited. And I am bringing some well bred, duty bound Michigan nightcrawlers. But it seems a shame to use them on those piscatorial layabouts they call fish in Maryland......LOL

Well, y'll ... I'll be leaving Tallahassee around 2:30 AM to drive to Jacksonville to catch a 6 AM flight to BWI. I'm almost packed and thanks to Rita and Dani, everything fits into my rolling backpack.

folk1234 (Phil Norton) is picking me up at BWI (I arrive 9:30 AM) and we will head north for Camp Ramblewood. We'll hit a grocery store along the way for potluck goodies and will probably arrive at Camp early afternoon.

I know I'm way to excited to sleep tonight but will try to fit in a nap and maybe catch a few zzzzzzz's on the flights. I cannot wait to see old friends and meet new ones. And play and sing, until my fingers bleed and my voice gets hoarse. And they will be my battle scars when I return to my workaday world.

Everyone who is driving ... be very careful, don't push it, we'll keep the home fires burning, the coffee going, and a morsel of food on the stove.

See y'll tomorrow ...

Well, Dani, I guess one could put most anything after "very much larger ...," e.g., boobs (plastic surgeon left town), butt (I never look at it so don't know), nose (nah, it's as plain as the on my face).

But (there's that word, again), if you plugged "guitar" into the end of that phrase, you would win the cigar! I'm talking about my new Larrivee dreadnought, which is much larger and heavier than my Gibson.

In addition, Monday my right shoulder started hurting and by Monday night I couldn't move my right arm and the pain was unbearable. Went to doc yesterday to have her tell me I have bursitis in the joint. I told her to find a miracle cure REALLY, REALLY FAST, because I had to be well by Friday. She put me on Relefen, a quite powerful anti-inflammatory, and it has improved considerably, and should be really good by Friday.

I am, however, now really concerned about putting too much weight on it, soo .....

If you would bring some towels and a couple of spare pillows, I will be indebted to you! Rita is supplying me with sheets and blankets. Let me know ...

Now, I think I can fit the rest of my stuff in my rolling backpack!!!!!

Thank g-d for small favors and wonderful friends ....

And, regarding T.P., I do prefer Cottonelle, but won't quibble, as long as it's not that shiney industrial T.P. that used to be in the Girl's Room in elementary school. In that case, would someone please bring me the current Sears Catalog?

I know y'll are as excited as I am and I can hardly contain myself .......!!!!!!!!!!

I finally mailed off my registration yesterday. Hopefully it will get there before I do.

About the weather and all. It is likely to change a whole lot in the course of each day. Bring layers. Last year, I think it was, we had a damned cold night on Friday. I slept under my fiberfill comforter and a big afghan, and wore knit pants, two or three sweatshirts, and my coat and gloves. Actually, I slept very well. But other people didn't sleep much that night.

Sounds like it will be better this year. Hooray.

Folk music's not everything Charlie. Fishing's not either. Likewise, drinking, it's only part of everything too.

What about the World Series? What's the TV situation at Ramblewood? At least 1 New York team will be in it and I'd like to see the Mets win!

Thank you both, Charlie and Dan, for the "weather." Flying in, as I am from North Florida, is going to take some creative packing, what with bringing linens, etc., so an accurate ~:} weather forecast is helpful.

This is first time I will be schlepping my new, very much larger in and out of airplanes, airports, etc., and I'm trying to figure if I can stuff the whole weekend into an oversized purse. Nah!

I told folk1234 to look for the short, little woman with wild red hair and a guitar bigger than she. Maybe I should wear my Carman Miranda hat, as well? Wonder if it would pass airport security?

Jeri and I were chatting yesterday and I brought up the question of where we should be supplying our own T.P.?

First, about Piping Through the Camp. Last year on Saturday, Eric dressed in full regalia, Sunday however since he was piping in the rain, just wore casual stuff. But for folks with kids, they shouldn't miss this, he is the most incredible leader, going up stairs, in, through and around interesting obstacles, under low hanging branches and walking along low walls without missing a note. Crazy and fun. The kids like it and sometimes there are a few of us older kids following him too.... But Eric chooses his own playlist. Eric was one of two pipers at the White House St.Patrick's Day festivities this year, which gives you an idea of how good he is.

Second, Pam Swan asked whether people who have CD's can bring them and sell them. She said she'd love to have some CD's by other Mudcatters. You are absolutely welcome to do that, sounds great to me. You can sell them on the honor system, or figure out whatever you like. We'll try to remember to set up a table for it. There will be various music for sale but no one repeat no one available to keep an eye on it most of the time (never needed anyone actually).

By the way, Jed Marum, who has another festival next weekend and couldn't make the Getaway, sent us a batch of copies of his CD to sell -- he's donating *all* the proceeds to the FSGW operating budget and the Getaway scholarship fund. Try to get a chance to hear a cut or two of his CD during the weekend, it's really nice.

If anyone else gets an urge to donate something for the scholarship fund (I think we're going to accept donations for a silent auction, but don't know who's organizing it), all contributions will be gratefully accepted. Bring a white elephant and feel virtuous about getting it out of your house! (and maybe into another Mudcatter's house?)

There may yet be another small change or two to the program. Should know by tomorrow.

If you are reading this and it's getting toward the bottom of the thread list, would you mind posting something to refresh it please.

It's ready, folks. If you go to the Getaway Program page (see the top post in this thread)you'll find links to Saturday's and Sunday's program schedules, hour by hour. This has been approved by most of the workshop leaders, so it's not likely to change much if at all.

Saturday's schedule looks a little funny, it's a software glitch, breakfast and Eric Rice-Johnston's bagpipe-playing Follow The Leader tour of the park seem to have gotten overlapped. Eric, I apologize.

Also, so's I don't miss "the one workshop/concert that I really don't want to miss ..." will you schedule the Kazoo Workshop before or after the the daytime stuff.

Jeri, as you can guess, I have no idea right now who will be where when!

The schedule is like a jigsaw puzzle with musical pieces, or more like a crazy quilt, maybe. RIght now I'm looking at different arrangements of the various pieces to see which way is the most promising in terms of things like balancing attendance across competing workshops, not scheduling people opposite their S.O. or best friends, not scheduling people opposite a workshop where their presence will add a lot to the quality of the music, making sure each session is in a room that's big enough but not too big, making sure I don't schedule a Saturday morning gig for someone who's coming in after midnight on Friday; yeah, you get the picture.... there may be people who can get this done quickly... if there are, send 'em over!

Once I have a draft, I'll put it up for everyone's review and complaints, then there will probably be more changes.

Bill and I were a bit worried because I forgot to put "Getaway" in the thread title. Is this a problem?

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
