Subject: 'Original' Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain
From: GUEST,Good Time Charlie

Greetings, When I was a lad back in the early '50s, Vaughn Monroe's "ghostriders in the Sky" took off and I ran out with my life's saving and bough the 78. After I got tired of the "A" side, I turned it over and played an unknown (to me) song called "Blue Eyes Cring in the Rain". I soon grew to like the "B" side more than the hit. Now, fortysomething years later, Willie has a hit and I like it but it's nowhere as good as the tearjerker I remember from my youth. Can anybody tell me who the artist was and how I might track down the recording? An mp3 would be fantastic! Tnx Large, Charlie Hobaugh vector412@aol.com

Hmmmmm. Written by Fred Rose, (1897-1954) This site (click) has a CD with it recored by Roy Drusky (whom I have never heard of). Otherwise, I can only find it recorded by Willie.

Hi Charlie,
If it's the same song that's in the data base (type blue eyes in the box) recorded by Willie Nelson then this is a midi!

best wishes, Yvonne

Slim Whitman, Elvis Presley, Gene Autry and Olivia Newton John also recorded it!
My personal favourite is the version by Foster & Allen....will send a tape if you like.
regards Yvonne

Well, thanks to you all, some got damn close, but I don't think any of you hit the "sweet spot", but I sure appreciate the effort. A free ride in my flying saucer to the one who finds the real thing... Chas.

Goodtime charlie: That song was popular many years before Willie Nelson made it popular. I remember hearing it in the 1930s. Sorry, but I can't for the life of me remember who sang it though. I think Roy Acuff may have recorded it but wouldn't bet on it.

It is my recollection that on 78 RPM records one artist filled both sides of the record. Am I wrong about that? I don't remember Monroe singing that song, but he may have.

Betcha before too long someone will come along who will remember though. Sandy Patton probably knows but he's probably abed now. Just be patient. You'll get your answer.
