I've never met Si Kahn or seen him perform, but I've had pleasant correspondence with him on a number of occasions. I came across a full concert on YouTube. I guess that will have to satisfy me for now, but it sure would be nice to see him in person.
Si, if you want to come to Northern California, I know some nice house concert venues.

Here's the concert video.

The song is a metaphor comparing the sisters (Great Aunt Lizzie and Grandma Nannie) to mountain trees.

Nice song, Stewie.

That line "be like sisters on the mountain, branches..."

confuses me. Could be trees or mountain laurel, but why sisters?

Chance

Sorry, last line of first stanza should read: 'Holds MY future in her hands'.

Someone requested this in another forum and I typed it out because I reckon it's a great song. I thought I'd post it here for those who may be interested. Si Kahn has plenty of lyrics of his songs on his website, but not this one.

LURAY WOMEN
(Si Kahn)

Tall as timber, Great Aunt Lizzie
Wrapped in rugs against the cold
Looking out across the mountains
To the valleys of my soul
On the porch where Lizzie's rocking
Great Grandma Nannie comes and stands
Underneath her plain white apron
Holds my future in her hands

Refrain:
Luray women, how you're with me
Soft as memory, strong as wood
In my face you are returning
Hear you singing in my blood

Now the years and all my memories
Flow like water by the bridge
I can see them in my mirror
Tall as trees along the ridge
Just like trees along the mountain
Through the years grown straight and tall
Till the place where they've been standing
Seems deserted when they fall

Refrain

If you lose the one that loves you
Make a life that's all your own
Find a place no one can reach you
Turn your back and go back home
But if you find the one that loves you
If you love the one you find
Be like sisters on the mountain
Branches touching, roots entwined

Refrain
