Here I go again, asking for help, but...(see title) I've heard this song sung, and seen it in print, but canot seem to find it now that I'm looking for it. Does anyone know it? Is there a midi or musical notation to it anywhere?

Thanks in advance! ;-)g'chik

I'll search in a minute - The song is "Virtue" and is by Brian Leo - who performs with his wife as "Molly and the tinker"

the tune is similair to the tune posted on alan's midi page for "The Knight and the Unicorn" (see quick links above for Alan's Mudcat Midi Page)

okay - I can't find it, so with my usual disclaimer that this is copyright, and that I am doing this from memory so it may not be right, plus I do it in third person, while normall it is sung either first person by a woman or alternating by a duo....

VIRTUE
(Brian Leo)

She's looked along the highway
and she's looked among the trees
She's crept through every hither and yon
and blistered both her knees
She even went to chapel
and looked under every pew
But it's surely gone, bejezus
and she don't know what to do!

won't somebody help her look for it
She'll search until the dawn
For it seems she's lost her virtue
And she don't know where it's gone!

oops! thought of another way to seaarch! it's in this post!

that saves me having to type it all out again!

Thank you so much. I'll hit the midi page for the tune. I've also heard theat if you sing a Brian Leo tune, he requests that you give him credit. I will do so.

Thanks, again! ;-)g'chik

It's a little different. Can you do HearMe? if so, we could "meet" there sometime and I could sing it for you.

Thanks, MMario. How does HearMe work? Don't know if I have the computer capabilities to do so. However, I got in touch with a friend who actually knows Brian Leo, and she sang it for me. Cool, huh? However, HearMe does sound like fun....

Copied from the web site of Molly and the Tinker (Brian Leo and Diane (Shuton) Fishbein) – see Irish Bain's link above.

VIRTUE
Brian Leo ©1986

1. I've looked along the highway and I've searched among the trees.
I've crawled through every hither and yon and blistered both me knees.
I even went to chapel and looked under every pew.
Ah, it's surely gone, bejaysus, and I don't know what to do.

CHORUS: Won't somebody help me look for it? We'll search until the dawn.
For it seems I've lost my virtue, and I don't know where it's gone.

2. My mother says a good girl keeps it tight between her thighs,
But nevertheless it has no color, shape or even size.
I looked and looked for hours there but nothing could be found,
So I guess I must have dropped it and it's somewhere here around. CHORUS

3. My father says it's precious, and to guard it with me life,
To save it up and to give it away to the man who calls me 'wife'.
He says I dare not sell it; it's a mortal sin they say.
Ah, so now that I have lost it surely there'll be hell to pay. CHORUS

4. Now darling Tom, the miller's son, me special friend is he.
He listened to me dreadful tale with heartfelt sympathy.
Tonight he says we'll find it if I meet him by the brook.
For he's got a special tool, says he, and it knows just where to look. CHORUS TWICE
