Rose of Annandale ----I've heard this song round a few festivals in Scotland over the summer -- easily remembered chorus, suitable for nice harmonies --- I've forgotten it, of course! Rob

Okay, I've found midi files of Rose of Annandale here: clicky

So far no luck on words; sorry.

Presumably you're thinking of The Rose of Allendale (that's the tune that mousethief found; yet another variant spelling!)  Lyrics and midi are on the DT, here:  Sweet Rose of Allandale

There is some discussion of the song and its putative relatives and origin on a past thread, here:  Lyrics for Rose of Allendale

Malcolm

Thanks, all. I'll check your links. I used to be a sound engineer, but I'm alright now --- but half deaf, so I probably mis-heard the title/chorus! Rob

Heard Mrs. Akroyd Band do this with a beautifull female voice in the background singing the usual words and Les Barker speaking over the top the words to the Nose of Alan Dale.
I laughed till the tears ran down me trouser legs.

There's also Mary (Grey)of Allendale - Hook 1899. I think I've seen it elsewhere but it's in Old English Melodies, Wilson, Boosey& Co 1899. Regards, John

Yup, John Hill's got the right choice of "best" here!

And would that have been June Tabor crooning in the background of Les Barker's parody??

G.
