Anybody have the words to an old Clancy Brothers tune called "Dear Boss" in which a poor guy maims himself trying to lower a bucket full of bricks from a building?

It's in the database. Try "Why Paddy's Not At Work Today" or "Excuse Note".

there was an entire thread on this awhile back...this seem to be one of the most enduring songs/stories/jokes I have ever heard! It has been quoted as fact as happening to an apple farmer in Nova Scotia...

The Clancys call the song "Dear Boss," and it's on a Vanguard CD called The Clancy Brothers/Live!. It's available at Amazon and the usual suspects.
Mike Cross has it on Creme de la Cross, also titled "Dear Boss."
If you look in our "Origins" thread for this song, you'll find lots of background information from the songwriter.

The songwriter frequently posts as a guest here. As Joe pointed out, you will find a lot of info on this song here in the forum, including the lyrics.

This song really does seem to have an amazing appeal. I've been doing it a capella for the last ten years or so, and it always gets a warm response, in slight part because I always dedicate to "anybody who ever had to earn a paycheck by the sweat of their brow." I even did it over the phone at work for a reporter trying to track it down. My boss asked me about that after the story came out in the paper. That was before Mudcat and the incredible community resource it became. I think the appeal of the song is that it is so utterly believable, and just plain funny. The melody is very similar to that for "In The Garden Where The Praties Grow," but I suspect there are as many variations as there are performers.
