Thank you all so much for your help (for the name and artist). I stayed up half the night looking all over the net and the closest I came was Boz Scaggs but it would have been a cover. Am going to go look for Beth Neilson Chapman right now!

It is "Sand and Water" by Beth Nielsen Chapman.
Another thread where lyrics will be posted is here.

Thanks, folkmuse for starting this thread and thanks to you, Susan, for the info. It was a beautiful song, very haunting and I was going to start a thread about it, too.

Try Beth Nielson Chapman, I looked on Amazon, but I do not have speakers :-( so I'm not sure if this is the one, but based on the description I would guess it is. ER just ended on the west coast, and the song was very nice.

At the end of tonight's ER a beautiful song was played. The lyrics I remembered were "all alone I come into this world and all alone I will die....sand and water and years gone by." I'm not sure it's a folk song but it sure was a good imitation of one. ;) Am looking for the name of the song and or singer-songwriter. Thanks!
