Subject: The Whale Song From: Barry T Date: 19 Oct 00 - 11:36 PM For years I've longed to find the lyrics to a song sung by Shirley Jones on one of the episodes of the Partridge Family. It was titled The Whale Song, and was written by Dan Pevton and Marty Kaniger. It was never released on any of their albums.
I've asked the webmaster of the Shirley Jones Fan Club website, but perhaps one of you already has the lyrics. You can read about it here, and listen to one verse and refrain here. (Warning 570k wav file!)
If I manage to find it, I'll sequence a midi (How can I resist?) and share the lyrics with you. It's a beautiful melody with a poignant message! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Whale Song From: Barry T Date: 30 Oct 00 - 12:35 AM I've made partial progress tracking down this tune... one verse and the chorus plus my midi sequence.
Chorus
Sing me a song of times that you knew
I may have found an individual who has the rest of the verses, but he has to scour his archives to look. In the meantime hum along or make up your own verses. Nice tune, to be sure! |

Subject: RE: Req: The Whale Song (Dan Peton/Marty Kaniger) From: GUEST,Marty Kaniger Date: 28 Sep 06 - 10:33 AM Thanks for the kind words. Don't mean to nit-pik but just a couple of minor corrections on the printed lyrics - second line of the chorus should read... "sing ME a story as gently you go" and the last line of the last verse should read... "FREE from the fear and destruction of man". Glad you all appreciate the song... isn't it a shame though that the lyrics are still relevant. |
