Subject: Need Lyrics:It's Nice to Get Up in the Morning
From: tantrip
Date: 28 Aug 97 - 12:51 PM

Hi! A friend of mine, a great singer, needs the complete lyrics to a tune that goes:

It's nice to get up in the morning When the sun begins to shine At 4 or 5 or 6 o'clock In the good old summertime But when it's snowy, snowy And murky overhead It's nice to get up in the morning But it's nicer to lie in bed.

We would be really grateful to anyone who knows the words and posts them. Thanks in advance!

I think this song is a song of one of the greatest Scottish entertainers, Sir Harry Lauder. Is that right? The lyrics you wrote may be a bit different from ones I know. I'll look up the song in my songbook.

Perhaps, I'll be able to post the whole lyrics on Monday.

Regards

Here the lyrics

IT'S NICE TO GET UP IN THE MORNIN'
Harry Lauder

O! ye'll never, never, never thrive, lying in yer bed.
Early risin' makes us wise, I've often heard it said.
I believe in that mysel', but as far as I can see,
If early risin' makes us wise, ye'll say the same as me:

CHORUS: O! it's nice to get up in the mornin' when the sun begins to shine,
At four or five or six o'clock in the good old summertime.
When the snow is snowin', and it's murky overhead,
O! it's nice to get up in the mornin' but it's nicer to lie in bed.

O! there's lots o' folks that never work; they hate the very name;
And others would be idle if it wasn't just for shame.
They say we should rise wi' the lark; well, I believe that when
The lark that we should rise wi' doesn't get up till ten. CHORUS

O! my brither Jock's a baker, and he sleeps along wi' me.
In the winter morn Jock has to rise and start his work at three.
Before he gets his troosers on, his legs are nearly numb,
So while he's standin' shiverin', I lie in bed and hum: CHORUS

Regards

Teru

Sorry, the first line of the chorus is missing.

It should be: O! it's nice to get up in the mornin' when the sun begins to shine,

THANKS TERU!

Too cool. My singing friend, Dave, will be SO glad to get these lyrics.

If ever you're in Tamworth, Ontario, Canada (a village about halfway between Toronto and Montreal, north of the big highway that connects those cities), stop in at The Bakery for a free coffee-and-something-scrumptious-to-eat :-)) Dave and Poppy are the owners/bakers, and Dave will engage you in an impromptu hootenany while he bakes bread.

'Bye for now, tantrip

tantrip:

Could you tell Dave to sing this song with a strong Scottish accent?

If I have an opportunity to visit Canada, I'll go to Tamworth. It's too far from Japan, anyway.

With my best wishes

Teru

I used to love hearing Kenny Hall sing this one.

I have always heard the chorus as when the Dew is dewing not when the snow is snowing. It does not snow in summer.
