This old song, probably from the twenties or early thirties, starts with "Goodbye forever, old buddies and pals, goodbye forever, you beautiful gals, I'll miss you" If you can track down the lyric and the music I'd be very appreciative

Well, there's a song that I remember from a Mitch Miller "Sing Along With Mitch" album from my childhood that goes, as best I can remember:

Gee, but I'd give the world to see
That old gang of mine
I can't forget that old quartet
That sang Sweet Adeline
Goodbye forever, old fellows and gals
Goodbye forever, old sweethearts and pals (I'll miss them)
Gee, but I'd give the world to see
That old gang of mine

If that's the right one, it will probably take less than 24 hours for somebody here to post a link to the song, complete with all the right words, the tune, a discography, and a biography of the author. And if it's not, wait a bit and the right one should pop up. Welcome to the Mudcat!

Aloha,
Mark

You can hear it here. ...don't see words anywhere.

Straight from my 78 vault.

THAT OLD GANG OF MINE - Shannon Four
Words by Billy Rose and Mort Dixon. Music by Ray Henderson. 1923

I've got a longing way down in my heart,
For that old gang that has drifted apart.
They were the best pals that I ever had.
I never thought that I'd want them so bad.

    CHORUS
Gee, but I'd give the world to see
    That old gang of mine.
I can't forget that old quartet
    That sang 'Sweet Adeline'.

Good-bye, forever, old fellows and gals.
Good-bye, forever, old sweethearts and pals
    (God bless them).
Gee, but I'd give the world to see
    That old gang of mine.

Last night I strolled to that old neighborhood,
There on that corner I silently stood.
I felt so blue as the crowds hurried by,
Nobody knew how I wanted to cry.

    CHORUS

Old songs bring back memories. My late first husband sang it, usually in conjunction with "Wedding Bells are Breaking Up That Old Gang of Mine." And, hey, Tiger - Billy Rose, my dad told me, was once a court stenographer like my dad. Not that it matters to anyone except, perhaps, Dad's ghost. (He would have been 101 year old this year.) You have a 78 vault? Anything of mine you'd like to add to it?
