Subject: RE: Tune Req: where to find fiddle tunes From: Thyme2dream Date: 23 Oct 00 - 04:45 PM I don't know any sheet music sites first hand, but you might check out this link: Bluegrass & Swing Music Magazine This site has an archive of live jam sessions with some of bluegrass music's best fiddlers, some of the field recordings go back as far as 1954. There are also some tabs for some of the tunes and I believe a links page. If nothing else, e-mail Jim Moss who runs the site...a great fiddler in his own right who loves the old-timey traditions and would be glad to point you in the right direction if he can! |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: where to find fiddle tunes From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 23 Oct 00 - 11:30 PM First, there is no such thing as a fiddle tune, really. Anyone could take a tune and play it on piano, recorder, flute, dulcimer, or tuba. So don't look for fiddle tunes, just look for good tunes. Start with Richard Robinson's Tune Book. It has links to other sites. Or you could just buy the Fiddler's Fakebook (alternative title: 50,000 Eighth Notes) for $25 and save yourself a lot of time. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: where to find fiddle tunes From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 18 Feb 02 - 02:45 AM I keep having computer crashes, not the ones that destroy my hard drive any more, but ones that cause me to lose data, particularly stuff like my Mudcat cookie and browser favorites. In my most recent event, I lost a great source of fiddle tune sound files I found in the forum. It appeared in a thread started by someone, as I remember, who asked how to learn to accompany fiddle tunes, and it had MIDIs or MPEGs or Quick Time files for hundreds of fiddle tunes. Recently I tried finding it via a Google search, and although I didn't succeed, I did find one good source of MIDIs: http://homepages.valylink.net.au/~ausreg/celtic/celtic.html (a little blue clicky magic would help here). And can anyone direct me to that thread and its link to the fiddle tunes site? --seed |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: where to find fiddle tunes From: Mark Cohen Date: 18 Feb 02 - 04:15 AM This might be the site you're looking for, seed: Old Time Music MIDI Archive. Note: it works better in Explorer than in Netscape. (I was the one who started the thread on fiddle tune backup--which turned up lots of good information and advice.) Aloha, Mark |
