Subject: Reel du Forgeron From: Manitas Date: 23 Oct 00 - 04:07 PM Can anyone supply the dots or a midi file for the above as played by La Bottine Souriante? I have an extract in WAV form but lack the software to convert it. I've tried to buy a program called WAV2MIDI but the suppliers don't seem to be answering their email. Perhaps someone knows of some other software. I have Mozart and Cakewalk Express for music transcription. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Reel du Forgeron From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 25 Oct 00 - 08:22 PM Forgeron= Blacksmith. Can't find the tune, I'm afraid; you may just have to learn it by ear. Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Reel du Forgeron From: The Shambles Date: 26 Oct 00 - 03:23 PM I found a copy of the CD in a shop today, couldn't play it unfortunately. It gave the English name as The Blacksmith's Reel. If there was someway of us actually hearing it, we may be able to help more? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Reel du Forgeron From: talentcourt Date: 27 Oct 00 - 12:44 PM the reel du forgeron is a tipical quebec traditional tune as every other tunes that are so well know in quebec you have to specify wich source you have. I don't think la bottine souriante made any transcription for this piece and i can only guess that theyre source is Andre Alain. i can suggest another good version. It's on the cd gigue a deux by jean carignan. He's the better known fiddler from quebec and there is quite a lot of litterature written about him. With a little luck you should find paper music for this piece. Unfortunately traditional music from quebec is still pretty much an oral tradition but we're working on transcriptions. don't take my word for it: you can ask the folkS at "thirtybelow" in joliette, quebec they can probably answer your question. you can also chek out the 2 books "The portland collection" maybe it's in there. you should look |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Reel du Forgeron From: talentcourt Date: 27 Oct 00 - 01:03 PM just another thing. BEWARE OF TRANSLATIONS if the title is not in french you could end up with a reel that's completely different from what you were looking for and that happens a lot. by the way that's a good translation. BLACKSMITH=FORGERON but still---stay on your toes regarding translations. One last thing the reel du forgeron is what we call a crooked tune. If you like that piece you should defenetly look for the cd ("Les têtes de violons"--crooked tunes") it should be available to you. Les têtes de violons are a Vermont based group and the cd is in "thirtybelow"'s site |
