Date: 23 Oct 00 - 05:37 PM New York Times today has a very revealing (yeah, yeah) article on the spread of pornography thanks to technology, and the usual hypocrises. Among the interesting findings: General Motors sells more graphic sex films per year through DirecTV than Larry Flynt of Hustler ($200 million worth). A.T. & T. (through Hot Network) is also doing well on its broadband cable service. Sex movie rentals: 71% by men alone; 19% by men with women; 7% by men with men; 2% women alone. 711 million hardcore sex video rentals a year in America 20% of Americans with VCR or cable access will pay to watch explicit hard core sex. They buy $4 billion of graphic sex videos, and $800 million on soft-core videos, for 32% of the general interest video store market. Adult pay-per-view programs are in nearly 1.5 million hotel rooms (40% of all hotel rooms). Half of all adult guests rent these, accounting for $190 million a year in sales, and 85-90% of all in-room revenues. 21 million Americans visit at least one of the 60,000 "sex sites" (no further breakdown of what that means) on the Internet once a month, and these sites are estimated to already generate $1 billion in revenue (the numbers are hard to calculate). I was in a video production class at the time and we were supposed to come up with a "brainstorm" list of ten ideas for video projects. So I wrote up this funny (I thought) proposal for a stop-action animation "porn" flick involving stuffed animals. I just thought it would be silly and pretty hilarious ... It was not well-received by my other classmates. It was only ONE of my otherwise brilliant ideas, but from that moment on, some of them could barely stand to be in the same room with me. ww |

From: Little Hawk Date: 24 Oct 00 - 03:33 AM I have a stuffed Kermit the Frog figure (really cute!) and I used to take him to all my performances as a mascot, until my crazy friend Walsh (a musician, of course) decided to start persecuting poor Kermit. He kidnapped him and held him for ransom one night at Don's Coffeehouse (in order to raise money to help Don out after the sound system had been stolen by some local pricks...who were never caught). He put cigarettes in Kermit's mouth when I wasn't looking, and I wondered what the hell the audience was laughing about during the whole song I was playing...I utterly hate cigarettes!!! He kidnapped Kermit on other occasions just for the hell of it. He tortured and hanged the poor little guy. And then...one night at a jam in Barrie...someone brought a Miss Piggy doll. Walsh grabbed Kermit and Miss P. and proceeded to place them in every compromising position imaginable for the duration of the jam. It was a disgusting and highly embarrassing ordeal for my shy and self-effacing froggy friend. Kermit has since refused pointblank to come to any musical show I do if Walsh is within ten miles of it, which he frequently is. What a drag. Walsh, if you are out there, I hope you read this and feel just like the sh*thead that you are sometimes when you get just a tad carried away with your funny antics. It's not easy being green. flattop - see if you can forward this to Walsh...he's been hard to reach lately for some reason. |

LH - In Roll & Go we make good use of stuffed animals, especially when entertaining the kids. We have stuffed rats and dogs and horses. We use the rat for Charlie's Rodent Mariners song and the horse for the Dead Horse Chanty. I lead that chanty and they others play keep away so I can't get my hands on the horse. The kids love it. It is a long strip with the ocean on one side and a river on the other. The land is 99% residential with a few small businesses in the middle of the town Most of the businesses have been there forever. There is not enough for a big business to move in, to say nothing of no place to put a big business. There is, however, enough residents in our small town and other small area towns to provide a nice living for us. Those others you mentioned don't have adult films either. Also, we are going to have music CD's (with a nice Folk Music section, of course), and a tanning bed. We will have a large selection of video games as well as foreign, classics, and other unusual films. Our prices and our return policies will be much more libral than the bigger companies. This is well thought out and I feel we'll do fine. We can always change our product you know. We also have deals with the local beach clubs in the works. If you rent a cabana for a time period, day, week, month, season you get a discount on rentals and I also rent the machines. One beach club asked me if it was ok for people to order in advance so the machine and rentals were at the beach club when thay arrived. Gee, I said, sure! We'll be ok! I saw it ALL...the gadgets, the books and magazines, the gross and the tasteful..(yes, there IS some)...and the customers!. Let me assure you, porn, whether YOU like it or not, is useful and important. It is unfortunate that so much of it is trite, sad and tasteless, but it still is a part of society, as it has been for most of recorded history, and fills a genuine need in many peoples lives. The big change is now, with the internet, tasteful porn (as well as all the rest) is available to anyone who can get near a computer, usually for free!...Yes..we DO need to provide safeguards to keep kids from getting ready access, but they have ALWAYS gotten to it, even if they had to draw pictures for each other! I have gotten spam trying to sell me live show and full-length movies, and with fast modems and new storage devices, we ain't seen NOTHING yet......we'd sure better come to terms with it, 'cause it is HERE to stay! |

We specialized in foreign films, classic films, indie and odd ball. (We love John Waters, David Lynch, Peter Greenaway, Luis Buñuel, etcet etcet.) Unfortunately Blockbuster arrived *and* the economy turned to doogie doo, all around the same time. Our gourmet selection included lots of quality erotic films -- and they all had plots! and humor! etc. People including women felt comfortable renting X films from us and often asked my opinion of a film if I was around. Our titles were in a book that could be discretely consulted, rather than a blatantly labeled "Adults Only" room or some such thing. Bat Goddess |

It's easier and less subject to censorship to show a murder from six different angles and in slow motion so as not to miss a single bloody detail, but God forbid trying to show a caring couple giving each other pleasure.... No contest which picture kids are allowed to see more often. |

One of the very few differences between humans and other animals is the ability to LOVE.
