Guesses: "a" sounds like like "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes"; I forget the group."d" is "Please Release Me" by Engelbert Humperdink (now, I think, just Englebert; his real name is Gerry Dorsey). "e" is from the musical HAIR: "When the moon is in the seventh house/ and Jupiter alligns with Mars/Then peace will guide the planets/And love will steer the stars/ This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, Age of Aquarius....Let the sun shine/Let the sun shine in..." The medley (it's really two songs from the show) was a hit for the Fifth Dimension.

On the first page I checked, Love of the Common People was credited to Paul Young who did record it (as did John Denver and others). It appears that the song should be credited to Hurley/Wilkins.

Ummm. The first person I heard singing "Love of the Common People" was Leonard Nimoy. Can't remember if it was the album cover with or without the Spock ears, tho...

In between "Westmeath Bachelor" and "house with the Whitewashed Gable"

Oh happy days !!!!!

OK, I know Edwin Hawkin's Singers (or something like that)

C) This was a hit in the UK for Helen Schapiro about 1962 - probably a cover of a US hit by someone else - I think the title was "Queen for tonight"

b) Is starting to annoy me. The song was definately written by John Hurley and Ronnie Wilkins (who also wrote Son Of A Preacher Man) but I can't find when, who first recorded it or any info on the authors.

Love Of The Common People
Written by Hurley and Wilkins

Living on free food tickets
Water in the milk from the hole in the roof
Where the rain came through
What can we do
Tears from your little sister
Crying 'cause she doesn't have a dress
Without a patch for the party to go
Oh but you know she'll get by

'Cause she's living in the love of the common people
Smiles from the heart of the family man
Daddy's gonna buy her a dream to cling to
Momma's gonna love her just as much as she can
And she can

It's a good thing you don't have bus fare
It would fall through the hole in your pocket
And you'll lose it in the snow on the ground
Out walking your dog to find a job
Trying to keep your hands warm
But the hole in your shoe lets the snow come through
And it chills you to the bone
You better go home where it's warm

You can live in the love of the common people
Smiles from the heart of the family man
Daddy's gonna buy her a dream to cling to
Momma's gonna love her just as much as she can
And she can

Living on dreams ain't easy
But the closer the knit the tighter the fit
And the chills stay away
You can take them in stride, for family pride
You know that faith in your foundation
And with a whole lot of love and a warm conversation
And a ___?____ prayer making you strong
Where you belong

Where you can live in the love of the common people
Smiles from the heart of the family man
Daddy's gonna buy her a dream to cling to
Momma's gonna love her just as much as she can
And she can

Waylon Jennings is the one I remember on this song. Loved his voice, and the rawness of the song's message.

Jon, I too saw that Paul Young seemed to be credited with the song. I checked and his lyrics are the same as the above. ??

One of the "Hair" cast, on the original album, is a very young Diane Keaton. She was, the story goes, the only cast member who refused to doff her jeans for the nude number. The sun didn't shine in everywhere, tribal love-rock or no. Oink.
