FYI--,For those of you who are in the New York City area and enjoy classical guitar along with your blues and folk styles, tonight at the 92ndStreetY, you might catch the performance of Christoper Parkenington. He is one of the best classical guitarist around.

bflat, I was practicing how to pronounce his name- decided it would be much easier if there were two n's, as in Parkennington. Otherwise it kept coming out as parkeningting. What a relief. :)

Ebbie, I am always rushing around lately. Sorry to have thrown a curve ball. Anyway, I just returned from the concert which was a tribute to Andres Segovia. Christopher was one of his master class students and somewhat a beloved by Segovia, American guitarist. He was tonight an inspiration to anyone who aspires to classical guitar. Three encores!!

Christopher Parkening lived in my town for many years, and there is an annual Christopher Parkening master class here at Montana State University. click here

He is an outstanding musician -- one of the greats of classical guitar -- and an interesting and intelligent human being. As a young classical guitarist, I attended a performance by him in around 1971-72, and was truly inspired. "Parkening Plays Bach" is still one of my all-time favorite albums.

Just another voice singing the praises of Parkening. The Bach is wonderful, as is his work with Kathleen Battle.
