How about;

Chicken crowin' on Sourwood Mountain Hey deing dang diddle ally day

My True love, she lives in Letcher Hey deing dang....

So many pretty girls, I can't count 'em ..

She won't come and I won't fetch her ..

My true love lives up the river, Few more jumps and I'll be with her, My true love lives up the holler, She won't come and I won't foller.

Some of these days before too long, I'll get a gal and a home I'll run. Big dog bark and the little on bite you, Big gal cout and the little one'll marry you.

From an old music book 'Around the World' book six 1958

Oh.. and the title is Sourwood Mountian. The book says, Kentucky Mountian Song for who wrote it.

Also:

My true love, she's a blue-eyed dandy,
A kiss from her is sweeter than candy.

and

Back my jenny up the Sourwood Mountain,
So many pretty girls, I can't count 'em.

From Sandburg's "The American Songbag" - he alludes to many versions. All one song, far as I can tell.....Tiger

Learned the following song (two songs?) from my grandfather, who lived in the VA Blue Ridge, between Covington & Hot Springs. Anyone know more veses? Real Title? One song or two?

Rooster Crow On Sourwood Mountain (or) I Gotta Gal

Rooster crow(s?) on (a?) Sourwood Mountain, (All 2nd lines): Um, diddy, um, diddy-iddy-um, day, So many pretty gals, I can't count 'em, (All 4th lines): Um, diddy, um, diddy-iddy-um, day.

I got a gal, lives up the river, Hop 'n' a skip 'n' I'll be with her.

I got a gal, lives down the holler, She won't lead 'n' I won't foller.

I got a gal, she's a brown-eyed susan, 'F you don't love 'em, then you lose 'em.

I got a gal, she's a blue-eyed daisy, That little gal's gonna drive me crazy.

Repear first verse.
