My mistake, Joe. Could've sworn I saw "YouTube" at the top of the page for your mp3 (but maybe I was seeing the top of another window behind that one).

Hmmmm. Hey, yeah, I could post it at YouTube. I think I can illustrate the song with compromising photographs of Sharyn.....

Well, no, but it's a thought. The audio files are on my own Google and AT&T Websites, not on YouTube.

Thanks, Joe.

Sharyn, that song is so beautiful, especially when sung by its composer!

Now, Joe, how did you manage to post an audio-only file at YouTube?
I have tried to do that but YouTube wouldn't let me.

Ooops! Meant to add a link here - (click).
Now, I wonder if I can teach Sharyn to make links - right-click on the link and select "copy link address" (or whatever wording your browser uses).

You can also hear it as written by me on a link that Joe Offer posted on his website -- Joe maybe you can add the link here as well?

The other link can be found in the thread called New CD: Paris Sharyn Dimmick

You can hear Wallflower Waltz here, from last year's FSGW Getaway (sung by Kathy W).   I didn't realize that was the title. I thought it was "Teach Me To Waltz."
It really is a pretty song.

Oops,

This is me years later, Sharyn Dimmick, writing in to say that my contact information has changed. I can now be reached at sharyndimmick@att.net or via PM on Mudcat.

Drumroll of Shameless Self Promotion:

A new recording of "The Wallflower Waltz" on CD will be available from me soon -- probably by March 2nd, 2009 or thereabouts. I got Kerry Parker to play a really lovely fiddle part. And, of course, "The Wallflower Waltz" is #10 of twelve tracks of good music, running the spectrum from traditional ballads and nineteenth century songs to originals and covers. The recording is called "Paris," as is the title cut.

Thank you to all of you who bought the old cassette. and all who love "The Wallflower."

Sincerely,

Sharyn

The duo Small Potatoes has a song writen by one of the pair that is an absolute jewel of a song. It has to be sung by a duet since it has two distinct parts that are sung at the same time. It's called "Waltz of the Wallflowers". This is a winner of the song competition in Kerrville, Texas a few years back. It is recorded on one of their CD's. It has to be heard to be believed!

WALLFLOWER WALTZ
(Sharyn Dimmick)
copyright 1995

Nodding my head, tapping my toe
I hold down a spot on Wallflower Row.
I learned to walk such a long time ago —
Teach me to waltz.

Sometimes I'm shy, sometimes I'm slow.
I fall out of step, I step on your toe.
I'm wanting to waltz more than you know —
Teach me to waltz.

Teach me to walk on air —
You know I'm halfway there.
Dance with me if you dare,
Teach me to waltz.

Teach me to waltz real slow;
Teach me to just let go,
Teach me the things you know,
Teach me to waltz.

When I am grey and eighty-two
Regretting the things I never did do,
I'll be able to say I went dancing with you;
Teach me to waltz.

Put down your fiddle, put down your bow.
I am still here on Wallflower Row.
We'll make it sweet, we'll make it slow,
Teach me to waltz.
(Teach me to waltz)

And the tune:

KC-- Sharyn is mailing her tape to me at a cost of about $12. I didn't ask whether it was a tape she made herself or one that was professionally recorded, but I imagine she made it herself. It contains Wallflower Waltz and a couple of other tunes she wrote (I'm anxious to see more of her work) and the rest are traditional tunes.

If it seems worth the price to you, you can e-mail your address to me, and I'll pass it along to Sharyn so she can send you the tape.

If you can think of a better way to organize the exchange, please let me know. Meanwhile, my e-mail address is cygnus@sirius.com

cheers-- PJ

I think my computer will let me scan in the lead sheet I have, and e-mail it to you as an attachment. I'll ask my husband how to do it ASAP. If all else fails we could rely on good ol' snail mail.

I'm really glad you like the song! I hope you have many happy turns on the dance floor this summer, and on behalf of all the girls who have ever sat on wallflower row, thank you for being one of those wonderful men who's willing to get up and cross the floor to waltz with us.

Last week on the thread about "pretty waltzes with words" I mentioned one I had heard at a session that was written recently. Tonight I talked to the songwriter and got all the words. I want to post it here in case it touches someone's heart the way it did mine.

When I heard it in session, the singer made it a point to sound a little shy in her delivery, which made it all the sweeter. According to the author, though, the singer used the b figure as a chorus, which was not the original intent. It did make for a sweet sing-along, though, and I think that's part of what made me remember it...

Please let me know if you like it.

The Wallflower Waltz
by Sharyn Dimmick

A:
Nodding my head, tapping my toe,
I hold down a spot on wallflower row.
I learned to walk a long time ago:
Teach me to waltz.

Sometimes I'm shy, sometimes I'm slow,
I fall out of step, I step on your toe.
I'm wanting to waltz more than you know:
Teach me to waltz.

B:
Teach me to walk on air,
You know I'm halfway there,
Dance with me if you dare:
Teach me to waltz

B:
Teach me to waltz real slow,
Teach me to just let go,
Teach me the things you know:
Teach me to waltz.

A:
When I am gray and eighty-two,
Regretting the things I never did do.
I'll be able to say I went dancing with you:
Teach me to waltz.

Put down your fiddle, put down your bow,
I am still here on wallflower row.
We'll make it sweet, we'll make it slow:
Teach me to waltz.

If anyone wants the lead sheet I can fax it to you, or you can order a tape from Sharon if you want me to let her know.

PJ
