Can anyone help with the tune for this sad tale of a sailor poorly treated?

Steve Roud's folksong index lists numerous broadside copies, none of which contain a tune direction. I can only find 1 on the Bodley Ballads website (use 'Parker'. other keywords from the 1st line don't work).

Verions with traditional tunes are in Baring-Gould's 'Songs of the West', 1905 edition; JFSS, 1930; and Frank Purslow's 'The Wanton Seed'.

Use BROWSE on the Bodley Ballads website to turn up numerous copies of "Death of Parker". The song evidently had its own tune, because "Sarah Gale's Lament" was to be sung to the tune "Death of Parker".

Sorry, I seems to have missed a line break after 'St. Merryn,' and the N: following should start the next line.

I posted the song back in August; here it is:  Death of Parker

It's always a good plan to have a look round before posting a request for lyrics; there is a search facility on the main Forum page which works rather well nowadays.  The FAQ thread at the top of the Forum page will give you a lot of useful tips, too; have a look at it.

On reflection, it occurs to me that you may in any case have done that, and probably already have the text;in which event, my apologies.  I sent a midi of the tune (the same one Bruce gives above in abc format) to the  Mudcat midi page   some while ago, but it hasn't appeared there yet, probably because Alan -who runs it- has been sent hundreds of the things recently, and can't do everything all at once.

Annie Dearman and Steve Harrison sing and play their version of the broadside ballad The Death of Parker. I think the background's worth reading too...
