I realise its a bit late asking now ,but did anyone happen on The Maritime Song Session in Cobh Co. Cork last June?. For me it was the gig of a lifetime because it gave me my first opportunity to see and hear the graet Cyril Tawney.God he was brilliant. The whole weekend was organised by the famous Cork singer Jimmy Crowley and featured along with Cyril, Liam Clancy,Mick Maloney, Jimy himself and The Caniffe Family, from Cork all were excellent in their different ways. Iwould advise anyone interested to look out for next year , if it happens P.S. Jimmy's latest album "The Coast of Malibar" deserves a listen check it out,it's on FREE STATE RECORDS @ P.O.BOX145 CORK IRELAND.

We were in Cobh in June but unfortunately not in time for the Fest. Great little place to hang out, though, the Holy Ground and all.

Rob-o' Yes Cobh is a great little town. Next time you're there check out a pub called "The Roaring Donkey". Its at the top of town, a great place for music and song

We were on the program with Cyril Tawney at the Lancaster Maritime Festival in April and I thought he sang great. Cyril's voice is better today than ever... full and warm. He has great timing and nice phrasing without being "dramatic." I had not heard him sing in about 20 years since he was at our folk club in New York. What a pleasure!

Tony Caniffe and Mick Moloney said Cobh was a nice intimate event. I'll get there one year.

Dan , Cobh was indeed an intimate event and most enjoyable. I'm not so sure if it will happen again next year, I think it depends on locals picking up the reins that've been handed to them by Jimmy Crowley. I really hope it does happen, especially with singers and musicians of last summers calibre. Cyril Tawney's voice has certainly improved with the years, your description of it as "warm and full" is bang on. He hit the high notes with ease and the low notes deep ,and yes, warm and full. It was the first time Id seen Mick Maloney live since the 60s when he sang with The Emmet Folk and afterwards The Johnsons and Ihave to say it was a great buzz to hear him in the flesh again. Does anyone know what happened to Brian Bolger who sang with him around then.

Thanks, Mariner, we'll most certainly do that. Believe i saw The Roaring Donkey up the hill. We had a great time pub-wise at the Lusitania and the Mauritania, and up the street at the old church that's now a club, can't think of the name of it. Charming lass is the owner. We hope to return to the green shores again next year, and hope to see the Holy Ground once more!
