I am trying to arrange an all day folk session in Brighton for January (as it is the dullest and most miserable month of the year), and wondered whether any UK Mudcatters would be up for attending. The landlord of the pub where we hold our weekly sessions is quite interested in the idea, so I am now putting out the feelers to see what sort of attendance we'd get! It would be a Saturday, early to mid-Jan. The more the merrier.

Anyone interested?

cheer

I have a sister-in-law and brother-in-law who live in Hove, and if you set up something, I will tell them about it. Jimmy loves a good pissup, and Jane has been known to sing a little.

Wish I could be there. (I live in Minnesota, USA.)

Please advise further. Wife's first husband who is a killer guitarist (even been on Radio 2) lives there and he has given up playing but this might tempt him back.

Richard, you just about gave me a heart attack... your sentence starts "Wife's first husband who is a killer..." and I paused and gulped for air.

Glad he's just a killer guitarist.

Great! I'll see what I can firm up and keep you all posted. Yes, it will involve plenty of beer (and singing!) - that goes with the territory. I will put feelers out about accommodation - I know one of our regular singers runs a B&B.

Will let you all know.

cheers

Yeah, I'd be interested. I have some friends in the area who might be as well. We can not, how ever, be assured of killing anyone with our guitars. My voice, however.....

Hello Coriander - you might also like to post your invitation on the Bulletin Board at www.folking.com which is a UK site and which also has many good things of interest.

Going by my experiences at the wonderful Manchester Gathering, it seems to me that one day probably isn't enough - if people are travelling a long way, they'll probably want to stay a couple of nights, which means Friday Night and Sunday lunch time as well.

We put a lot of thought into this, thinking at first that a different venue for each session would be a possibility, but in the end we agreed that all the sessions would have to be in the same place - to avoid confusion, to make it simpler for people booking B&Bs, only one landlord to 'sweet-talk' first....

Just my tuppence worth.....

Cheers,

Catrin

Sounds great. I'd agree that fri night thru sunday lunch is the ideal, and would make it more enticing...
B&B info would be welcome.
I'll see what MR KB reckons.

Before you get any further, there IS an all-day singaround plannd for 20 January in Sussex. It's at the Ram Inn, Firle, which is only a short drive from Brighton. It's been an annual thing for several years now, and singers from far and wide come to it. There's also one planned at Ashhurst in West Sussex on 17 February (Chorus and Harmony Day). Both will run from about midday until closing time (11 pm) So if you want to plan another one, go right ahead, but best avoid both those dates!
