Hello, I am new to mudcat, I was, I think I was, greeted last night, and hazed. I would jsut like to say thanks in finally letting me in on the justs of everything. The real reason for this thread is to introduce myself and my band. I am Peadie, 19, from IN. I really dig folk music, such as Simon and Garfunkel, JAckson C. Frank, CSNY, and modern folkies like Shawn Mullins and Steve Poltz. Now about my Band. Peadie and a Headless Parakeet was started in 1995, when my firend and I were bored, and we were trying to figure out a way to meet girls, so we decided to start a band. So for the next few days we were trying to think of a name( if you want that story go to the other thread.)We finally got a name. Neither of us could play any instrument yet, so my bandmate chose guitar, and I tried bass and harmonica, now I play guitar. He progressed at his skills, while mine diminished. We began singing and playing together, until about our JR year of high school, he started a Rock band, and I concentrated on my poetry, kind of. He went out of town to a real college after school, and I stayed in town to go to community college, I played with a group of friends over the summer, then ran into him at the mall, it was kind of like old times. After about a 2 months, my band broke up, and I was just itching to play some music with some one. I saw a thing on tv about how music nowadays is horrible, and I finally decided to ask my friend if he wanted to play. Only this time take it serious and actually make something of it. I started the site I amde, just for friends, and for others that are interested. I know it isn't much, and may look like shameless self promotion, but how els can we get the name out there. I want people to know what I am talking about when I say the name, not just laugh and say it is dumb. Well that is the brief story of my band, look for a more detailed version on the site, in the future. I wantto thank all of teh support that I recieved last night from all the people, I hope it continues. I also would like to thank all of you who finally let me in on the whole situation, and letting me know that none of it was 100% serious. Peadie

there are no w's in the adress at all, some people have had some trouble, I think it is because they don't type it in correctly.

Now as I've always seen it, there are bands with heavy seruious names that are a bit pompous about it, and want respect, and there are bands with intentionally funny names, as a signal that while they may take the music very seriously indeed, they don't take themselves too seriously.

Crossed wires somewhere here I think. Not to worry, if the musics ok, that's what counts. And this is a very friendly place indeed, whatever it sounds like.

the adress is http://communities.msn.com/peadieandaheadlessparakeet

there are no w's or a www. or a .com at the end. people have been telling me that they have had problems, and everytime I ask what they type in it isn't that adress, they add a www. or don't type it in correctly.

It worked this time!

The white-on-lime letters are a little hard to read.

Anyway, best wishes with your "group" -- break a leg!

Peadie, have you considered putting some sound clips of your group on the site?

Jon

If you wait long enough the white letters look fine because the lime goes away. Keep at it, Peadie, you'll get there.

Have you considered acquiring a suitably mutilated mascot to match the name? Possibly perched on the end of the guitar?

Grab.
