Subject: Lyric Req: Belfast, or Glascow.. From: Pat Patterson Date: 31 Aug 97 - 11:13 PM I heard this tune a while ago, and I'm not sure who did it, but the last part of the chorus goes something along the lines of: I never gave to Belfast more that she ever took from me, prepared me for life, on the road.... Now... I've also heard tell that this is an adaptation of a song that originally had "Glascow" in place of Belfast... any hints on the rest of the lyrics would be muchly appreciated..

Subject: Lyr Add: I WISH I WAS IN GLASGOW (Billy Connolly) From: alison Date: 01 Sep 97 - 12:03 AM Hi It was Glasgow, and written by Billy Connolly, he sang it at the end of each episode of his world tour of Scotland. Enjoy I WISH I WAS IN GLASGOW Billy Connolly Oh I wish I was in Glasgow With some good old friends of mine Some good old rough companions And some good old smooth red wine We could talk about the old days And the old town's sad decline And drink to the boys on the road Oh I was born in Glasgow Near the center of the town I would take you there and show you But they've torn the building down And when I think about it It always makes me frown They bulldozed it all to make a road And that great old place I miss so much Has seen much better days And still we talk about it As we go our separate ways Oh but Glasgow gave me more Than it ever took away And prepared me for life on the road And that great old place I miss so much Has seen much better days And still we talk about it As we go our separate ways Oh but Glasgow gave me more Than it ever took away And prepared me for life on the road My granny was a cleaner My granddad drove a tram My father an engineer Made me all I am They have seen the city come and go Still they give a damn There's so much to learn along the road And Glasgow gave me more Than it ever took away And prepared me for life on the road (From the LP "Billy Connolly - A Change Is As Good As Arrest") Slainte alison

Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Belfast, or Glascow.. From: alison Date: 01 Sep 97 - 12:06 AM hi That didn't work awfully well. Howvere I'm sure you get the jist of it. And while I'm here, I lied, he only sang it during the episode about Glasgow, it was a different song he sang at the end. Slainte alison |
