In fact, three from England and one from Canada. On November 27 we will have the pleasure of receiveing Lynne Dawson (soprano), Sarah Connolly (mezzo), Anthony Rolfe-Johnson (tenor) and Gerald Finley (baritone, Canadian) and Conductor MARK DELLER, for a performance of Sir Edward Elgar's Oratorio THE KINGDOM (Latin American debut) with the Buenos Aires Philarmonic Orchestra.

The concert will be at the Colón Theatre (considered among the 5 best theatres in the world). Choir's director: Maestro Alberto Balzanelli.

You may ask what is the connection with folk and blues, then I would explain: The Kingdom is a modern masterwork highly influenced by the spiritual songs and early jazz of the beginning of the XX century, and a pleasant surprise for anybody who likes early American music engraved in a classical form. If you have dropped a tear at the church sometime, you may well cry your lungs out listening to this marvelous music. GIVE A TRY TO "THE KINGDOM" in any of several recorded versions.

The other reason is that I'll be there singing with those 4 monsters.. well.. some 20 feet appart, among other 14 tenors, but in the same stage.

The concert is announced at the Elgar Foundation page, Click here where you may find many interesting things about Elgar.

Un abrazo - Andrés

Andrés! That is so wonderful. I remember your mentioning this, but didn't remember when it was actually taking place. Congratulations!!

Roger and I still talk about the evening we listened as you did "sound checks" in HearMe and sent us your audio files. I love listening to them. Your voice is gorgeous!!

BTW, I haven't forgotten I am to send you a package of my brother's stuff. It's been a little hectic around here, we are moving in with our daughter this month, here, so have been busy packing etc. I will send it off before the move, though, as a lot of stuff is going in storage.

What a wonderful experience this will be and how proud I am being able to call you amigo and tell all of my friends about you!!

Gracias, and luvya

katalina

I didn't know that you were one of the 'Fourteen Tenors'.*smiles*

Good luck.

How about a thread called 'Intresting things about Elgar'?

Thanks a lot Kat, Carol, Shambles ! BTW I'm surprised many people don't know the 15 Tenors (including myself), we have performed many times with some difficulties because the organizers install always three mics, but we manage to take our places after a short fight, and sing the same note as hard as we can. Another problem is the small room in the limo, for which we don't find many volunteers to open the limo's doors when we arrive, not to mention those low-budget concerts where we are never offered a complete dinner, and have to share the same hotel room where we cook our own spaghetti.

LLLOOOLLLLL!!! :))))))

(Sorry, this is a serious thread but I couldn't resist)

I would like an Elgar's thread, but I'm afraid not many people would be interested since this is mainly folk and blues..I would be happy if only some enjoy his music and get caught forever. I hope to obtain a CD and would send a copy to Mudcat Radio, they may want to broadcast selected parts, or the whole concert.

Un abrazo - Andrés
