Subject: ADD: Dust (Johnny Marvin) From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Aug 12 - 04:42 PM Let's see if we can put all the interpretations and corrections together. I'm not quite sure of everything, but I think this is pretty close. Please post any corrections below, and I'll add them. DUST (movie version) (Johnny Marvin) Dust, dust, dust in the sky, Dust on the trail, Dust in my eyes. Dust, dust, can't see the sun, Can't find my way, the dust has won. The cattle and the sheep, bedded down to sleep, Seem to realize their fate; The vultures in the sky, know the time is nigh, Will they fly away or wait? Oh Lord! Please ease my pain. Oh, Lord! Where is your rain and sunshine? Dust, dust, must it be? Can this be Eternity? Here was the home, where the buffalo roamed, Where the deer and the antelope played. Here was the place where the cattle would graze, The corn and alfalfa once swayed. Where are the ranches, the cow-punching crowd, What has become of the rain? Out of the blue came a threatening cloud, Causing this awful change. Oh, Lord! Please ease my pain! Oh, Lord, where is your rain and sunshine? Dust, dust must it be, Can this be eternity? Oh, Lord, have mercy on poor me! This song was the first one from a B-western to be nominated for an Oscar in its first appearance in Under Western Stars. "Dust" was recorded by Roy Rogers as a Vocalion single in March of 1938. Nine years later, he sang the song again, this time accompanied by the Sons of the Pioneers. Sometimes, I think I hear "dust in the skies" in the first line. Also, could that be, "Lord, please heed my pain"? I tend to side with "ease." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dust From: Bettynh Date: 14 Aug 12 - 01:19 PM The entire movie is here. The song starts at 40:30. The second verse has a different melody, incorporating "Home, home on the range." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dust From: Bettynh Date: 14 Aug 12 - 01:08 PM Here's first verse on youtube. It sounds like "Please ease my pain" in the chorus, though. |
