Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: UP ON THE C P LINE (Bill Morrissey From: GUEST,999 LYRIC ADD Date: 14 Dec 09 - 06:53 AM Up On The C.P. Line Bill Morrissey From the CD "Standing Eight" Capo 5 - Play like G-Em-C-D [G]I live up on the C.P. Line, every[G/F#]body [Em]knows, where the [G]women smell of turpentine and [C]that's the [D]way it [G]goes. Where the working runs from hard to worse, summer, [G/F#]spring and [Em]fall For [G]when Great Northern holds the purse, you [C]get no [D]pay at [G]all. Well it's [C]hard times up on the line, [G]hard times. [C]Hard times [D]up on the C.P. [G]Line. I took a wife named "Daisy" many [G/F#]years [Em]ago. [G]Daisy went woods crazy on the [C]very [D]last spring [G]snow. Now she walks around without her clothes. She yodels [G/F#]through the [Em]day. I'd [G]take to the doctor, but I [C]like her [D]that-a [G]way. Well it's [C]hard times up on the line, [G]hard times. [C]Hard times [D]up on the C.P. [G]Line. I got a .308 that'll drive a tack, listen to me sing. I spend my days in a timber-shack waiting for the spring. When I see the lights of Joplin, shining to the south, I can almost feel the whiskey, rolling 'round my mouth. Well it's hard times up on the line, hard times. Hard times up on the C.P. Line. Yeah, way up no the C.P. Line, Canadian Pacific, The women tell me I look fine and their taste is terrific. So drink a little whiskey, boys, drink a little beer. You can find your hard times anywhere, so we just stay right here. Well it's hard times up on the line, hard times. Hard times up on the C.P. Line. Yeah it's hard times up on the line, hard times. Hard times up on the C.P. Line. That is from http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Birches/message/103 which has many of Bill Morrissey's lyrics. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard Times on the CP Line From: John in Brisbane Date: 02 Nov 00 - 06:28 PM Ely, not being from North America I don't understand a lot of the railway songs that I come across. Is this a work song from (say) the earlier part of the 20th century? Is it from US or Canada? Regards, John |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard Times on the CP Line From: Ely Date: 02 Nov 00 - 12:48 PM Nope, it's not that "Hard Times". I've got all the arrangements of that I can stand. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Hard Times on the CP Line From: SINSULL Date: 01 Nov 00 - 09:06 PM Ely, The lyrics are in the DigiTrad. "Hard Times Come Again No More".The music can be found on the Levy Library site. It was written by Stephen Foster in 1866 but I have found a vey similar version attributed to an English farmer in 1866 (anonymous) who composed it while paralyzed and burst into song when cured. Either plagiarism or the folk process in action, you decide. I will post his lyrics here when I have a little time. Mary |
Subject: Hard Times on the CP Line From: Ely Date: 01 Nov 00 - 07:27 PM I heard this sung somewhere a few months ago and loved it, but I haven't been able to find the words/chords anywhere and don't remember enough of it to help me much in my search. Any background info would also be appreciated (just the basics--author, age, etc). |
