Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: mousethief Date: 02 Nov 00 - 01:28 PM Randy, welcome to Mudcat! A word to the wise: turn your caps lock off! Some people get really sideways when they see stuff in all caps. If you can't make it mixed case, all lower-case is preferable. (hell, if it works for k.d. lang (whose birthday is today), it's good enough for us) Just wanted to let you know before anybody got really unpleasant about it. It's been known to happen. Sorry I don't have your tune, by the way. Good luck!

Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: Margo Date: 02 Nov 00 - 02:09 PM Randy, do you play fiddle? I have seen this song in banjo tab (clawhammer). Don't know about fiddle music, though. As for recordings, here at Dwight Diller's site is some banjo tab and an audio file. Hope you find this interesting, Margo P.S. Yes, all caps is like shouting.... |
Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: GUEST,Bill in Alabama Date: 02 Nov 00 - 02:11 PM I have seen it in regular musical notation somewhere, but since I can't read music, I didn't pay much attention. I'll try to find it, but it might be awhile. Bill |
Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: GUEST,Les B Date: 02 Nov 00 - 04:57 PM I believe I saw it in the "Fiddler's Fakebook" in notation, and also in the companion "Mandolin Fakebook" in tab. I'm not at home, so can't tell you for sure if they're an Oak or Mel Bay Publication (in USA). |
Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: Lonesome Gillette Date: 02 Nov 00 - 05:12 PM I have it tabbed out for clawhammer banjo. I also have three recordings and they are all very different, One has two parts, the other two have three parts but they are in different order, and the melody for them all is only somewhat similar. There are websites that have LOADS of fiddle tunes recorded with what they call ABC notation, it's specifically for fiddle tunes. You need some simple software to translate the notation to standard but it is pretty easy. Just do a search on the internet for "ABC notation". |
Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: MMario Date: 02 Nov 00 - 05:20 PM I couldn't find it in JC's ABC tune finder. |
Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: Lonesome Gillette Date: 02 Nov 00 - 05:36 PM Randy, The Fiddle player in my band has the sheet music. If you can't find it I will photocopy it and send it to you if you'd like. You can email me: ericroyer@msn.com |
Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: Dave T Date: 02 Nov 00 - 11:45 PM It's definitely in "The Fiddler's Fakebook", Oak Publications, 1983, by David Brody. It's listed as "Elzic's Farewell" and has two references in the discography: Wilson Douglas - The Right Hand Fork of Rush's Creek (Rounder 0047) Pickin' Around the Cookstove (Rounder 0040) I'm not familiar with the tune but I thought the info might be of use. Subject: RE: FIDDLE TUNE From: Oversoul Date: 03 Nov 00 - 09:28 PM There is a snappy version of it on the Freight Hoppers first CD, too. |
