Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 05:03 PM I might have a listen in if I'm still awake but what time is Mountain Time relative to GMT or MudcatTime(EST)? Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 05:08 PM It is 3:05 PM Mountain time right now, and about 5:05 PM Mudcat time. I can't remember where you are located Jon, but I hope that helps you figure out the time for your zone.
I should have added this direct link to their website. I know these people, some from our session, some through other musical connections. They are excellent performers.

Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 05:16 PM Thanks Alice. I am in Wales (UK) and therefore on GMT but I am quite used to working in Mudcat Time but I get lost with other time zones. That will make it a 3am start for me but I have the reputation of being a bit of a vampire and I could still be up. Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 09:58 PM Just about to start if you want to tune in at that link in the first message of this thread. Can always tape it and listen tomorrow? |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:05 PM I have just tuned in Alice. I've never heard a madolin band before - this is great. Thanks for letting me know about it. Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:12 PM Wow. I hope others are listening to this, too. The historical notes regarding the turn of the century happenings of Civil War veterans who came here and the type of music played in the old Bozeman Opera House is very interesting. What do you think of it, Jon? Alice |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:14 PM Loftus Jones. Love that piece. |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:17 PM What do I think, Alice? Brilliant!! Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:21 PM I can't believe no one else is on this thread with us. This is the best thing I've heard on radio in a long time. |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:25 PM Maybe there are a few others listening in and not posting. I hope so as they are missing a treat if they are not. Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:30 PM One of the interesting things about this group is that they look for historic buildings to perform in that are fit for acoustic music. There is a 15 year old girl in the group. I know they had her play a solo in one performance. I don't know if she will in this one. I'm really enjoying the narration of history that goes along with this performance tonight.

Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:37 PM Yes, the narration is good. I'm probably enjoying the variety of music they are playing most of all - several styles, blues now and everything played to excellent standards. Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:39 PM Oh I love this piece from Don Giovani Jon (getting carried away) |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:40 PM Yes, here is the 15 year old now, playing the mandolin piece from the opera Don Giovanni. |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jeri Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:41 PM Haha, Alice. They must have heard you! Just tuned in - sounds very interesting so far! |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 10:58 PM Thanks for staying awake and tuning into this, Jon.... so I wouldn't be talking to myself here! What did you think, Jeri? The international mandolin orchestras coming to Bozeman next October sounds like a good time, doesn't it? I'm looking forward to great things this group will be doing. Alice |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 11:01 PM Well, the next program coming on is the Folk Sampler with Mike Flynn, another great show. Maybe you won't get any sleep tonight, Jon? |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 11:01 PM Don't thank me Alice, thanks again for making me aware of it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Nov 00 - 11:06 PM I'm not feeling tired yet so I'll give it listen for a while. I don't think I'll be doing one of my "marathon" jobs tonight though. Jon |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jeri Date: 04 Nov 00 - 11:07 PM I enjoyed it Alice. Mandolins can sound great in a bunch, and next October does sound like fun. I really liked the slow tune they did - The Far Horizon was the title maybe? (Reminded me a bit of Tubular Bells.) I could really imagine the miles and see gray-blue mountains in the distance. |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 04 Nov 00 - 11:12 PM It's called As Far As I Can See, and it's about the way Montana is. The title cut of their CD here.AS FAR AS I CAN SEE You can ask Bill Sables and Allan C. if this looks like any place they saw on their adventure. |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Jeri Date: 04 Nov 00 - 11:18 PM Thanks Alice. It sure has a title that fits the mood it evokes. |

Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 05 Nov 00 - 12:09 AM Hey, I taped the mandolin concert and now I am listening to Monroe's Blues. Just as good the second time. |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 05 Nov 00 - 12:11 AM Jon, you are going to need a long nap tomorrow. (Hey, the tape just came to the part with the Don Giovanni solo.) This is way too much fun. |
Subject: RE: Radio - Montana Mandolin Society From: Alice Date: 05 Nov 00 - 01:12 PM I'm just curious. Did anyone else check into this thread, or was it just me, Jon, and Jeri? I've been reading only a few threads lately. The spotlight seemed to be on other topics last night. |
