Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bell, Book and Candle / Eleanor Shan From: Jim Dixon Date: 06 Nov 00 - 05:08 PM This is all I have been able to find out: the song "Bell, Book & Candle" was written by Boo Hewerdine. It was recorded by Eleanor Shanely on her album "Desert Heart" (1997), by Eddi Reader on her album "Angels and Electricity" (1998), and by Boo Hewerdine on his album "Thanksgiving" (1999). The phrase "Bell, Book & Candle" refers to the Roman Catholic rite of excommunication, but in popular culture it has become confused with witchcraft and exorcism. John van Druten wrote a play by that name about witches. |
