Well, the time has passed so quickly
And the music's almost done.
Heard the fiddler and the piper,
The singer and the song.
Now the time has come to leave you,
One more song before we go.

So button up and aye be cheery
And tak a dram before you go....(2x)

Oh, this night we will remember
For the music's been so fine.
But the cold dark land of Caithness
Can be cruel and unkind.
Now I must say farewell and leave you,
Travel through the ice and snow.

So goodnight and God go with you
And watch over you until
We can all be here together
Our glasses for to fill
We'll drink a toast to absent friends,
Let the beer and the whiskey flow.

Yeah, but remember that folks in the UK often WALK to the pub and home again. In the US, everyone drives. Urging another drink upon a friend is not really very friendly when he/she will be driving home. Good song; bad advice.

Hello Grandpa, it's a Scottish song, and therefore I think there is no problem with drinking (and driving). I think it is a good advice to take a last dram before you leave a folk pub in Caithness and walk (!!!) home. Edgar
