Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey : Kristofferson? From: GUEST,Pixie Date: 05 Nov 00 - 11:07 AM sorry, I hit the "enter" key by mistake! Casey joins the hollow sound of silent people walking down The stairway to the subway to the people down below...." There is a bridge/chorus that is a bit different and goes: "oh she said, Casey its been so long since I've seen you Here, she said, just a kiss to make a body smile See she says, I've put on new stockings just to please you Oh, she says, Casey can you only stay a while? Any help with this tune would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Pixie |

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: CASEY'S LAST RIDE (Kristofferson) From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Aug 06 - 01:29 AM That's a dead link above, which goes to show it's a good idea to copy and paste here if there's a remote chance anyone will ever look for this song at Mudcat again. CASEY'S LAST RIDE Kris Kristofferson Am GThe poison air he's breathing has a dirty smell of dying 'Cause it's never seen the sunshine and it's never felt the rain. Casey minds the arrows and ignores the fatal echoes Of the clicking of the turnstile and the rattle of his chains. "Oh," she said, "Casey, it's been so long since I've seen you." "Here," she said, "just a kiss to make a body smile." "See," she said, "I've put on new stockings just to please you." "Lord," she said, "Casey, can you only stay a while?" Casey leaves the underground and stops inside the golden crown For something wet to wipe away the chill that's on his bones, Seeing his reflection in the lives of all the lonely men Who reach for anything they can to keep from going home. Standing in the corner, Casey drinks his pint of bitter, Never glancing in the mirror at the people passing by. He stumbles as he's leaving and he wonders if the reason Is the beer that's in his belly or the tear that's in his eye. "Oh," she said, "I suppose that you seldom think about me." "Now," she said, "Now that you've a family of your own." "Still," she said, "It's so blessed and good to feel your body." "Lord," she said, "Casey, it's a shame to be alone." |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristofferson) From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Aug 06 - 11:21 AM Thanks Jim. If you recall back then, we were still arguing over what got posted and what got linked. Good catch here!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristofferson) From: Stewie Date: 31 Aug 06 - 04:04 AM Beaut song from a great songwriter. A mate of mine use to sing this a lot back when the world was young. It is perhaps worth mentioning that the recent celebration of Kris Kristoffersen is first rate. Marta Gomez's rendition of 'The Circle' - still a song for our times - alone is worth the price of admission, and there are other gems: THE PILGRIM. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristofferson) From: Stewie Date: 31 Aug 06 - 04:23 AM I just read the reviews of 'The Pilgrim' on the Amazon link that I gave above. I am gob-smacked that not one of them mentioned Gomez's contribution. I must be on a totally different wavelength. It is one of the best performances I have heard this year. Emmylou's, Crowell's and Snider's also stand out, but Gomez's is something special. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristoffers From: NormanD Date: 31 Aug 06 - 05:54 AM Do track down Peter Rowan's beautiful recording of this song. Such a great performer on such a good song. Norman PS I just noticed that the blue ad link just to the bottom right of this reply is for "Kris & Rita CDs". Are these ads predictive according to what's being discussed? If so, scary. But could also have humourous implications if you post a thread on, for example: Origins of song - "Bollocks, And The Same To You". Not that I ever would, of course. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristofferson) From: GUEST,pennington-olive Date: 12 Jun 11 - 04:30 PM And "Ian and Sylvia" from Canada wrote it - I heard it in the TROUBADOR by them in the 60's |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristofferson) From: Jim Dixon Date: 19 Jun 11 - 08:36 PM Repertoire.BMI.com credits it to Kris Kristofferson. So does the US Copyright Office. It has been recorded by Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, The Country Gentlemen, John Denver, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, The New Lost City Rambers, Peter Rowan, June Tabor, and several others. I can't find any evidence that Ian & Sylvia ever recorded it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristofferson) From: pdq Date: 19 Jun 11 - 09:39 PM The version on The Country Gentlemen's reunion record in 1989 is stunning. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Casey's Last Ride (Kristofferson) From: GUEST,clare Date: 02 Jun 16 - 02:24 PM I heard the Country Gentlemen perform Casey's Last Ride many times, an advantage of living in & around DC. Their version was haunting. I expect Emmylou heard it more often than I did. It was a great bluegrass area. |
