Subject: Lyr Add: LET ALL THAT ARE TO MIRTH INCLINED From: Ezio Date: 03 Sep 97 - 10:15 AM LET ALL THAT ARE TO MIRTH INCLINED (TRADITIONAL ENGLISH) Let all that are to mirth inclined Consider well and bear in mind What our good God for us has done In sending his beloved Son CHORUS: For to redeem our souls from thrall Christ is the Saviour of us all The twenty-fifth day of December We have good cause for to remember In Bethlehem upon that morn There was a bless'd Messiah born But mark how all things came to pass The inn and lodging filled was That they could find no room at all But in a straw-filled ox's stall Near Bethlehem some shepherds keep Their flocks and herds of feeding sheep To whom God's angel did appear Which put the shepherds in great fear With thankful heart and joyful mind The shepherds went this babe to find And as the heav'nly angels told They did our Saviour Christ behold Three eastern wise men from afar Directed by a glorious star Came boldly on and made no stay Until they came where Jesus lay And being come unto that place Whereas the blessed Messiah was They humbly laid before his feet Their gifts of gold and incense sweet See how the Lord of heaven and earth Shew'd himself lowly in his birth A sweet example of mankind To learn to bear an humble mind Let all your songs and praises be Unto his heavenly majesty And evermore amongst our mirth Remember Christ our Saviour's birth (Recorded by Loreena McKennitt at Glenstal Abbey, Ireland) |

Subject: RE: LYR ADD: Let all that are to mirth inclined From: Susan-Marie Date: 03 Sep 97 - 11:39 AM As I recall (and I may be mistaken since it's been 8 months since I sang either one) the tunes are slightly different. |
Subject: RE: LYR ADD: Let all that are to mirth inclined From: Bruce Date: 03 Sep 97 - 11:50 AM For 17th century copies, entitled "The Sinner's Redemption", see item ZN112 in the broadside index at www.pbm.com\~lindahl\ballads\17thc_index.html. Original tunes cited are "The bleeding heart", unknown, and "In Crete", which is in C. M. Simpson's British Broadside Ballad and Its Music. |
Subject: RE: LYR ADD: Let all that are to mirth inclined From: Martin Ryan Date: 05 Sep 97 - 06:03 AM Bruce Can you confirm that index page, please? I can't seem to raise it - and attempts to get it via a search just lead to toooo many distractions! Regards |
Subject: RE: LYR ADD: Let all that are to mirth inclined From: Bruce Date: 05 Sep 97 - 11:53 AM Martin, Alternate for site is pbm.com/~lindahl/ballads/ballads.html Select the index, last under "Works so far" Broadside 1st line is "All you that are to mirth inclined" Scroll down to it. FIND command in some web browsers take a huge amount of ram to work in a file this large (3/4 Mb), and will turn up nothing if ram is insufficient. Alternately, copy broadside index to your computer and go in in a word processor, and use the FIND or SEARCH command there. Some word processors take a long time to open a file this size, however. |
