Last night 11-5-00 I tried to get into Mudcat and was consistently told the publisher is not connected to the internet. Was that true? Tonight it seems a long wait to get in. The announcement that "You've been kept waiting 1 min." came on. Now could you tell me if my webtv is the reason or were there problems on your end. Thank you.

Seriously, sometimes the 'Cat has a problem and goes down now and again. And sometimes things move a little slowly too. Not to worry, happens every once in a while.

I had the same problem last night (11-5-00). Could not get in. Thought maybe some of the Catters had put the hoodoo on me. Got paranoid.

Everything else worked, except the 'Cat.

It's a hoodoo, voodoo, magical kinda place, all right. Never know what is gonna happen. And if you have pissed someone off, they won't yell or squawkk like a stupid lil humanoid. They'll just throw a quick hex together and your binary stream will dry up like you just blew a hole in your UART! These guys are good. And usually, peaceable. Just don't rub 'em the wrong way cuz there ain't NO tellin' what they might be capable of.

Well its a fact Joerg........The earth's crust has cooled considerably and a lot of the crust has taken up residence on Kendall. Just remember, phoaks, that if you bookmark the help site at http://help.mudcat.org , you will always be able to at least get in there to read messages about what may be technical difficulties and/or start a notification thread of your own.

Last night, Jon posted a link to a different HearMe in the help forum as Aine's HearMe kept kicking people out. It's a handy palce to have bookmarked.

You should also bookmark the alternate Mudcat, although it was down last night, too. It is http://ragtime.mudcat.org

Mickey - to answer your question ... I dunno why. It just does that sometimes, and it's often ONLY the Mudcat that I'm not able to open -- which is the only one I really want to. I figure it's Gawd A'Mighty's way of telling me to stop foolin' around get my butt back to work ... But it may just be overloaded traffic on the site because Mudcat's so damned cool and popular...

Thanks WyoWoman. Twas my first experience at not being able to get in. I felt like I was knocking on the door of a friend. The light shone under the door and he wouldn't open up. Mickey, I know the feeling; the first time it happened to me I couldn't get in for a whole weekend and I felt seriously rejected and lost...
There was a long thread in the following days, containing other peoples' feelings of loss as well, which made me realise how important this place is to so many.
