Subject: Voter Notification From: David Coffin Date: 06 Nov 00 - 09:05 PM There has been a change in the voting procedure for this week. Because of the expected huge voter turn out, there will be two election days. All voters should follow this procedure: Those Democrats and Republicans voting for Al Gore vote on Tuesday the rest of the Republicans vote on Wednesday. Thank you. |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Susan from California Date: 06 Nov 00 - 09:09 PM Garbage like this actually turned up in the way of fliers delivered in senior citizen neighborhoods. Every voter should vote on Tuesday, for whichever candidate they believe in. |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: David Coffin Date: 06 Nov 00 - 09:22 PM OOOPS. Sorry. No disrespect meant. I was emailed this notice and at the time thought it was pretty funny. Of course every one should get out and vote. |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: thosp Date: 06 Nov 00 - 09:32 PM lol---- did they give a day for Nader? |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: katlaughing Date: 06 Nov 00 - 09:43 PM This was on another thread, recently, too. I think it would be great if it could be arranged that way.**BG** BUT, I am sorry to hear someone thought it would be funny to actually get sr. citizens to take it seriously. That is mean and stupid. Nader gets everyday, because everyday SHOULD be Earth Day! |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: WyoWoman Date: 06 Nov 00 - 09:46 PM I thought it was funny. I cannot imagine anyone seriously believing this, but ... geesh. I think I'm the one who emailed it to Kat. I hurt for people who are so naive or uninformed that they don't get the joke. I mean, my little Mommy is 82 and when I emailed it to her, she LOL'd back at me... ww |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Troll Date: 06 Nov 00 - 10:28 PM There is a talk show host in Atlanta who aired it on his show and posted it on his web site. Now the states attorney in Atlanta is making noises about bringing charges. He is a Libertarian named Neal Boortz. You can read about it at:www.boortz.com troll |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: JedMarum Date: 06 Nov 00 - 10:34 PM I thought this was a great joke, too! |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Lena Date: 07 Nov 00 - 08:51 AM When the Christian Democrats collapsed,in Italy,in '94,elections followed after a few months. One of my schoolmates, wandering around the pools, saw a very puzzled old lady storm out of her voting box cring: I can't find any Christian on the paper!!!My priest always told me to tick them!!! Unfortunately, jokes like the one posted here worked on senior and religious citizens for around fifty years down that country, carefully spreaded around from clever people. But anyway,I really wish people took THIS joke seriously on this last day...ehm...oops... |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Hollowfox Date: 07 Nov 00 - 08:54 AM The end of the joke, as I heard it, was a (False, obviously) quote from Mr. Bush saying,"I'll see you at the polls when I vote on Wednesday." In service to completeness in the folkloric world, Mary |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Nov 00 - 09:02 AM If you seriously wanted to fool people with this, it isn't the old people you'd try it on, it'd be the young ones.
The really dirty trick you get in some elections is old people who are too frail to vote inpwerson being tricked into letting some crooked canvasser have their proxy vote, and it's used the way they wouldn't want it - there've been several cases of local councillors getting elected in close contests using that one. Conservatives I was pleased to note, in all the cases I heard about.
Compared with that "voting the dead" is comparatively clean politics. |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Naemanson Date: 07 Nov 00 - 09:46 AM I think the elderly have a better grasp of their rights and obligations under the constitution than the younger members of our "civilization". I would expect more young voters to show up at the polls on Wednesday than elderly voters. BTW, I received this joke from both liberal and conservative friends. If it came from a liberal I learned the Republicans should vote on Wednesday. If it came from a conservative I learned the Democrats should vote on Wednesday. And no, neither Nader or Buchanon had a day set aside for their supporters. |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: wysiwyg Date: 07 Nov 00 - 11:08 AM Musta been a Nader-Buchanan plot then to convince both Dems and Repubs to vote on Wednesday-- so they could duke it out between them. A conspiracy!!! We need a good conspiracy about now in American politics. Scandals have gotten too "everyday" to make much out of them anymore. We need to harness paranoia again, now that avid restimulation of sexual distress has run its course. Mostly kidding. (READ THE IRONY THREAD!!!) As we who are from Chicago say, "Vote early and vote often!" ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: GUEST,truckerdave Date: 07 Nov 00 - 11:12 AM If anyone was stupid enough to believe that, they don't NEED to vote. |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: kendall Date: 07 Nov 00 - 11:43 AM They dont teach Civics anymore |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Troll Date: 07 Nov 00 - 12:22 PM Yeah. It's "not relevant". And besides, it's eorucentric and patriarcal and hard to understand -sorry. not PC- slanted against non-achievers who need sucesses to afirm their self-worth. Besides, if we still taught Civics, people might have an idea of how their government is actually SUPPOSED to work and the politicians would be in trouble. No, give them Bread and Circuses and keep them quiet. troll... It must be an age thing Kendall |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: MiriamKilmer Date: 07 Nov 00 - 12:57 PM Thank you very much. I am forwarding the original note to all of my ignorant, naive Republican friends. ;-)

Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: GUEST,fretless Date: 07 Nov 00 - 04:55 PM Mary/a.k.a. Hollowfox wrote "The end of the joke, as I heard it, was a (False, obviously) quote from Mr. Bush saying,"I'll see you at the polls when I vote on Wednesday."' Actually, my understanding of George W's quote upon exiting the voting booth this morning was "Well, they told me that a vote for Nader was a vote for Bush...so I voted for Nader." One can only hope... :-) |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Amergin Date: 07 Nov 00 - 05:20 PM Praise, you want conspiracy? Ok I'll push this forward.....wouldn't it be funny if it turned out that Shrub's DUI thing was planted by his own people to make Gore look bad.... Amergin |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Matt_R Date: 07 Nov 00 - 05:37 PM Hey, I came up with the conspiracy theory, first. I have this theory that Al Gore had Carnahan's plane sabotaged. |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: DougR Date: 07 Nov 00 - 07:50 PM WyoWoman, I thought it was funny when you sent it to me. I know you were hoping I'd "bite" on it though. DougR |
Subject: RE: Voter Notification From: Bill D Date: 07 Nov 00 - 08:15 PM some people took this SERIOUSLY??? *sigh*...It's too bad ignorance doesn't itch! |
